Hi,

Looking to buy a Landrover but the budget is only £2k.

I've seen on Ebay that the only thing in the budget are Series type?

As it'll be used as a winter vehicle and for towing (horse trailor) I was wondering what the best model is to buy and what to look out for if going down the seriously old path?

Thanks.

£2K will get you a RR Classic or a Disco 1 as well. Better for winter as at least they've got heaters.

Watch out for rust.

Whatever you go to look at take someone with you who really knows what they are looking at, otherwise the 2k could just be the start of a very empty wallet.
For sheer simplicity you cant beat a series motor, but as an everyday car with a standard engine not really.
E bay search (tax exempt land rover), or (land rover series tdi) quite a few on there.
Obviously a tax exempt motor is almost free to own, no tax classic insurance full comp for me is 73 quid and thats with breakdown cover!.
Plus wont ever be worth any less than what you paid for it, cant say that for an old disco.

Serously watch your towing weights - a series with a normally aspiratred diesel or a 2.25 will struggle with an Ifor 505 and two horses up.
I would go off maximum towing capacity and see what the budget buys you with a capacity to tow a couple of tonnes at least. Work backwards from the weight you expect to tow then check the max capacity of the various LR models
I agree that for towing horses you might be better off with a rr classic or a Disco 1

....A whole lot of hassle and time, mines owes me about £fuc4kn0sshowmanythousands so far..... in 3 years of ownership.

....If you really really want a series, buget about £1K with zero experiance over first year paying someone.... Or £300 quid and LOTS of time.

Other option is to get a suzuki and save all the time, hassle and expense.

But if you go the suzie route make sure its pink. and you have flower stickers on the sides.....

....MAN UP GET A SERIES AND FORGET ABOUT THE TIME MONEY, DIVORCE, HEADACHES, BLOOD LOSSS, & GONERIA.....

what the hell have you been doing to the series lol, i know we love em but aint that going a bit far!!!!!!!!!

2k will buy you an old series landrover, a new chassis, wiring loom, 200 tdi engine new tires and a lot of tea while you make a really nice winter vehicle. You also might need a few more pounds but you will enjoy the experience.
So will your neighbours they will all have something to talk about if the rebuild is on your front.

If you know what your doing , able to haggle , and do a lot of work your self. Quite a lot. If not a pig in the poke . Get someone with a lot of landrover experience to help.
