You don't have to tell mer to relax and enjoy life I do that pretty well ta. The title of this thread is about how many miles you get on a tankful so I do think its relevant. My opinion is that anyone going on about MPG needs to be measuring it with some degree of accuracy. If everyone has a different way of doing it how can we do a comparison?

Yet again you demonstrate to me at least, that you are far from relaxed.
The purpose of this thread was so that the originator could share general information with others, not getting bogged down in finite details, it's the big picture he was after:
"I know some might give me the what they get mpg.
Im asking on the basis of a full to the brim of fuel any concoction Bio, veg oil diesel, what do you get out of it when the red light comes on.
My mate has tried it on his 200 tdi and have managed to get 605miles
The reason for my question is that mine will only do 460."
We all know that doing really accurate comparisons of fuel consumption is extremely difficult to achieve as there are a huge number of variables.
I believe that most readers on this forum are sufficiently grown up to understand and accept that this is the case.
The originator raised this question in the way he did so that he could better understand why the big picture is so different for the two vehicles. He is not questioning fuel consumption as such, but range. He is getting only 75% of his mates range, that's day to day significant. Not miniscule differences.
In your response you say "My opinion is that anyone going on about MPG........" but he has already said that it's not mpg he's interest in but range. Now of course they're related, but not the same.
Anyone that does fill-up down to
nearly empty, to fill-up again will have a pretty good idea of RANGE as well as mpg. That surely is sufficently accurate for this guy's purpose?
The other thing to bear in mind is that this has now gone on for 10 pages, seem to be a bit emotive but hopefully has answered the initial question?
