is there any specific items i need to particpate at a pay and play day?
i am picking up my discovery this weekend its completly standard 300tdi. do i need anything to go on a off road day?
i looked on one and it said i needed bits like 2 tow points, not a issue as they are there and fire extingusher etc

for most pay and plays. just decent recovery points will suffice.. The problems arise when yu try to get places a std landy just won't go.. Stay away from water until; yu've got a snorkel. and soft sand or mud unless yu've got AT or MT tyres fitted. Apart from that Enjoy have fun and be prepared to get recovered a lot.. All good fun though
 
thanks i have a few plans like a snorkal , winch bumper and guards for underside then when i have a little more money a lift kit.
its got chunky tread on tyres so they should last till i get it lifted then some big tyres and wheels.
 
As redhand says really. Most pay & play sites grade their routes; white tend to be easiest, black is reserved for competition trucks and those fitted with roll cages.

Red routes will be hit and miss - some will be drivable in a standard car, others you will definitely get stuck. Try and have a look at someone else driving the route first, particularly if you can't see a solid base due to water and/or thick mud.

If you have a tow bar, this may well act as a plough and kills your departure and, to a lesser extent, approach angles - but does count as a rear recovery point. The towing eye at the front is not an acceptable recovery point, so a pair of JATE rings on the chassis rails, or a steering guard with integrated towing eyes will do the job nicely. They (should) also check your battery is firmly held in place, and a fire extinguisher is required at some courses.

iv got a towbar on my disco but own a caravan so i need it ors id take it of. and i need to get some tow points for front then. thought standard tow bracket would do but ill get some new ones. thanks
 
It's worth having a strong, decent length recovery rope with a shackle on the end fitted to the front and rear recovery points ready before you dive in.

It will make it easier when (not if) you get stuck, and allow you to help others quite easily too.

The front one can come up over the bonnet and be shut in the passenger door out of the way, and the rear one you can shut in the rear door too.

Saves a lot of faffing about in the mud trying to find your recovery point, you just need the end of the rope :)
 
i got a thick tow rope from autojumble yesterday £3 bargain. need another for back now.

How thick? And what condition is it in?

Tow bar will be solid enough, if it's been installed correctly. But don't just loop the end over the ball without securing it, if it comes off under tension, it could fling back and cause damage.
 
Spend as much time watching and learning as you do driving! You'll see where other people fail and work out why... before you get stuck yourself
 
or even better see if you can blag a lift around the course as your a complete novice and you want to learn you will soon learn how to do it and you will pick up skills from the person you in with
