I’ve had at best the 40 minute commute along a twisty A road, day off tomorrow so will be out for a long drive to the hills to go cycling, but from what I did drive home there seemed to be less road noise from the tyre, a bit more low frequency hum which I expected, less of the harsh mid tones coming through. Felt marginally better damped as well, but that could be down to it being an A/T tyre.

I must admit I have been tempted to go 255/60 or even 255/65 on my R18 rims but was worried about rubbing and I need my speedo fairly accurate as there are speed traps everywhere. Of course, the extra weight is going to stress the ball-joints and so forth more. I don't think I would go wider as they're pretty wide to start with.

Does the spare fit in the wheel well or do you have it in the back? Or did you source one of Flo's rear carriers off his old Range Rover Evolution company?

Mine now runs 265/65/17 at3 with no issues they do look purposeful and fill the arches against the old 235 65 17 and are speed matches the sat nav spot on were as before it read under speedo 76 sat nav 70

I've wondered about people's speedos. Mine matches the sat-nav at just about all speeds; I've always been amazed how close it matches.

I believe there are 2 pots on the back of the speedo that can be adjusted to calibrate the speedo. I cannot help but wonder if soneone at the factory on later models didn't give as much of a **** about getting it right or maybe the pots drift over time and I just got lucky.

235/65. The 65 is the depth as a proportion of the 235, isn't it? The standard tyres for R16 are 255/65. R17 would be 2 inches bigger in diameter or 50mm bigger. Width difference 20 * 0.65 = 13 mm times 2 (for each side for diameter) is 26 mm smaller so overall an inch bigger. 265/65 would be 6.5 mm times 2 = 11 mm bigger in diameter so 61 mm bigger diameter overall?

Please tell me more - my spare no longer fits in the wheel well now that I have upgraded to these; Toyo Open Country M/T 255/85R16. and it is a pain! (Some one on here warned me about that - and they were right) - so I have been looking for a wheel carrier, tell me about Flo please?

Most speedo's over read which is allowed by the regs. The Xtrail I had was actually doing 45kmh at an indicated 50kmh, 80kmh at an indicated 90kmh and 115kmh at an indicated 130kmh, The Transit is pretty accurate within about 1mph compared to the sat nav.
 
Changed the coolant hoses on mine. I didn't realise how baggy the old ones were until the new ones were next to them. Well worth doing if yours are 25 years old. I also topped up with new antifreeze / summer coolant. Hoses were Allmakes ones at a fiver a pop. Look OK, I guess time will tell how long they last.

Also, got the tyre reset that had a dodgy bead and had gone flat.

She's running like a dream again and after an hour idling showed no signs of overheating so it looks like I might (fingers crossed) have got away with it.

Flo was in France and part of a group of enthusiasts that took P38As and other Land Rover off roading. He modified his car quite a lot and made diff-guards, skid plates, rear carriers, winch bumpers and sold them from a company he called Range Rover Evolution. I don't think it is still going though. Some places like Devon 4x4 in the UK used to sell some of his stuff but I doubt they have any stock left. Might be worth a call.

He was a member on here but my memory for names is bad. Might have been @996TURBO? Worth checking his posts as he put up sone lovely videos of them all playing in the mountains.

New after market electric fan controlled by switch on the dash.
New Flux Capacitor! - Makes it go better.

I had been using Keith's air con fan mod after removing the viscous fan - but it was not quite up to the job on more taxing routes - a couple of fans the wrong side of the air con rad and working on a standard usually mud encrusted LR rad were always going to struggle and it was over heating in slow uphill situations. So treated myself to this - as recommended by the LZ experts!

typically, a speedo will be up to 10% over actual, which i think is where the scamera "10% +2mph" tolerance myth comes from
most/all cameras are not 10%+2mph over 'actual'

I think some cameras are set under, the speedo on my P38 matched the satnav exactly and, I found those slow down signs
lit up at 29mph, cameras I suspect, are the same.

I've got a direnza model, good rad but mine was welded very poorly. It's sealed properly but looks poor and not as nice as yours does😔 I also had to tap the name plate in the middle on the top, downwards to reduce the gap above the baffle inside. 🙄

The new RAD would have been even better with the flow at the top as normal and the return at the bottom. The GEMS V8 RAD fits and gives about 30% better cooling.
I purchased a 16" fan to go on the inside of the RAD, I have never fitted it as it has not been necessary.
