Already ordered Delphi balljoints full set and seals. Won’t be here to receive them so will be interesting who’s hedge they end up in
How much are decent half shafts? Mine are likely shot to bits, hubs are likely original, 32? Is the hub?
busy jubilee weekend see how bad it gets

Hub nut is 32mm unless it has been replaced with Britpart which will be 36mm and require a thin walled impact socket. I got the local indy to slacken it first with their windy gun.

If you need any heat on anything then stay away from the CV boot and brake flexis!

Nearly 30 years old and click like my back  I’m sure you’re right and I’m panicking over nothing won’t know the state of anything if I don’t manage to get it apart. Ball joints are here so no turning back now. Delphi units look pretty sturdy full set + axle seals (allmakes) £67 from Maltings off-road Yorkshire
I'm sure @Grrrrrr solved his clicking half shafts by using Locktite on the splines.

More likely the cv joints clicking than the half shafts IMO.

Today, the old lady returned us, successfully and under her own power, to Tunis. That was quite an adventure, short version she left the desert in better shape than she entered it. Which says something about my bush mechanic skills and their lack of usage in our drive way. Once I have some more time I'll sum it up in more detail. Let's say I was close to burn her down in the dunes and call insurance! Luckily I didn't! Well, tomorrow it's back home at midnight, then she can relax in a cosy ferry garage for almost two days.

Well, next time I come here I'll bring all the spares and replacement parts, incl. paint, and have her redone. Garages can do anything here, given parts, if you have the time.

Anyways, it was realy nice!

Thought it was easier/cheaper replace whole unit? Vibration is getting pretty bad got to be sorted before can think about new tyres. Do the axle seals just rip out/tap in?

You mean the wheel bearing in the hub? New hub was about £200 when we did it. The Timken bearing was £70 but you need a press and bugger it up and you're on the way to £200 anyway.

$47 US / $ 60 Cdn
A thin wall socket here is $ 7 Cdn
To be honest, you're not missing much by not having the special tool. Still loads of clearance issues with it. You still have to rotate the prop shaft to get the bolts in the sweet spot. And the socket can get trapped under the u/j. I just use 9/16 open ended spanners.

You forgot to mention that your nuts have rounded off and your knuckles skinned, over to you @Rubberknees .:D;)
