Everything about luxury vehicles has increased costs. If I wanted a cheap vehicle I'd be looking at a Kia C'eed. The list of vehicles to replace my P38 are Jag XK, Aston DB7 (can't quite get a DB9 in my budget), Merc CLS or Range Rover. None of which are cheap to run.

I was under the impression the failed turbo was more on the 4.4, but I shall hunt a bit more. Perhaps this is my justification to go V8 petrol.
An LR mech say's there is a waiting list for replacement TdV8 engines, doesn't sound good to me.

Filled the boot up with old wine bottles and newspapers for the recycle place. Checked the rear hatch to see if the fuel pump has come loose as its making more noise than usual, everything ok but the tape used to seal it was loose so fitted new tape (could be as simple as that), will see if it's quieter in the morning when dumping the wine and newspapers?

Eek, so that is a TDV8 out of the question.

The way things are going I'm either going to spend a fortune fixing every fault and niggle with my P38 or leaving the RR club and getting the XK.

took it for a nice drive out after i cleaned the leather treat it nice and gave it a wash and she said she didnt like the rear wiper arm and dropped it into the middle of the rear screen well thats gratitude for you isnt it :violent:
 
Changed my diff oil, about 2K overdue, front looked as good as the day it went in, rear diff oil was black - either the diff oil pixies have been changing my front diff oil or I presume there's a seal on the way out at the back somewhere allowing crud in? The VCU is fine - I am driving the front wheels! :confused:

Not sure what you mean, but for the avoidance of doubt, the VCU does not drive the front wheels, the centre diff does that, the VCU is just a diff lock

Fair enough, I must admit I've never really taken much notice of or tried to understand the drive-train configuration other than where the various fluid go! :eek:
 
Washed it! Forgot how good it looks when its clean. Think I'll give it a good buff soon as there are a few marks that need sorting
 
Put a stereo in, found that I can't get any radio stations but the ipod* bit works beautifully, sounds pretty damn good to be honest.

just finished a cylinder compression test on my p38 dse, started with #6 first and got 450psi,#5, 450psi #4, 44&half psi, the battery is struggling now, so jumped it with my golf, #3, 440psi battery struggling again,#2, 440psi #1, 440psi, all results were recorded between 5,to6 crankes or when dial stopped moving, my service book tells me only the minimum compression figure which is 200psi, so was wondering how strong my figures are.

As i said in reply to your other post, I hope your #4 figure is a typo, if not you have a big problem.
 
had a nightmare day with her she fought me on every turn oil filter housing cap was so tight i had to use a chain wrench to undo it :eek: then i found i had the wrong oil filter once oil change was done went to tighten the housing back up and broke the diesel feed to the pump so had to patch a piece in to get it to run haven't got a clue where i can get a replacement piece cannot find anywhere that stocks them the bit that i need is part num ESR2960 PIPE-FEED-FUEL LINES, CONNECTOR TO FILTER, WITH DIESEL ENGINES
