Delivered cards to neighbours and a small gift to the old boy who used to live next door and who is now in the old folks home. Always confuses them as the French don't make a big deal of Christmas, New Years Eve is the big celebration.

Started fitting Bearmach rock sliders, nightmare!

If Anyone has fitting instructions for the terrafirma steering guard I'd love to see them! I've bought the tf897 alu guard.

I found a large piece of rubber matting at work a couple of weeks ago, so today i set about measuring the carpeted area under the rear seats (from the front edge of the original "boot" rubber mat to the front edge of the rear seats) of my P38. i wanted to remove the rear seats completely to make the job easier, but i couldn't find my torx socket set buried deep under all the other stuff in my E30 Touring, so had to work with the seats in situ.
measuring approximately 140cm x 56cm, i cut a template out of an old piece of carpet i had, cutting around the wheel arches and seat fixings, then the hailstone storm hit!
of course, i was working outside and all my load area contents were scattered everywhere on the ground. everything (including me) having had a cold shower, i reloaded it all and came indoors.
weather permitting tomorrow, i shall finish the template, then cut the rubber mat accordingly.
i just wanted similar protection to the "boot" area, in the rear seats area, for when i have larger amounts of stuff to cart around.

Need to do a 500 miler this weekend to visit family, so taking the bmw coupe. Jumped in the 'backup' car (bmw) this morning and for the second time in a month it's knackered. First the rad exploded (new fitted) and now turn key, click click, flashing headlights, classic dead battery symptoms. Time to dust he leaves off the P38 again!! Backup car my butt. Have got more faith in the Rangey lately, starts every time.

Went shopping in the ****ing rain, EAS fault RR valve stuck closed. Looks like another height sensor that doesn't like the wet. Shame, it's been going so well.

Set about dismantling my original eas pump to see if I could replace seals. The reason bing that yesterday my RR decided to give me the dreaded EAS Fault Max speed 35mph - the first I've had in 50,000 miles (I knew I spoke too soon last week after reaching 135,000 "with no major problems". Suspecting the current pump I took that off as well: What a load of junk!! The piston had come off the drive shaft - no grub screw to hold it too the shaft like original, in fact the whole counter balance was different - the whole inside was a mess! Only bought it Feb 2010 (from a place that rhymes with haddock and also a place to keep horses) and covered 35,000 miles - shall not be going there again.

Ordered the Nanocom (Motronoic version) before the 20% offer finishes. Hopefully sort out the intermittent "Book" symbol once it arrives! Suspect it will be the blend motors but hoping it wont be!

Fluid and filters in leau of an (overdue) full service and fitted a 8000K HID kit in order to blind other drivers.

Would you mind giving me a link to where you got the HID kit? I've been looking to get one. Are you getting bulb failure messages after installing it?

It was from Eurocarparts Ultra HID Xenon Conversion Kit - H4 (472) - 8000k

Although I only paid £29 for it - it's still at a reasonable £39. And being the "ultra" kit the ballast resisters have the required load to fool the BECM into thinking the bulbs are working. The Standard kit does not. So no, I do not get headlight blown warnings. Although they do say that brands may vary so no guarantee the kit will be the same as mine!

I thought I'd try their 10W60 oil while I was there: TRIPLE QX SynPlus Fully Syn 10w60 Engine Oil - 5ltr

As the old girl is getting a bit old, oil consumption is about 1 litre per 1000 miles unless I add a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer which pretty-much stops it using oil, I'm wondering if the 10W60 will help matters without the Lucas.

Thanks, I've been looking for one and yes that £39 seems pretty good value compared to what I was looking at before.

If you have time and don't mind any chance of a pic of the lights in the dark? I just want to see how blue the light is.

Should be pretty blue being a 8000K system. The temperature (K) of the light translates to a particular colour spectrum. 8000K is supposed to be the bluest. It tells you to #### off when you turn it on. :D

Bought it earlier anyway and picked it up. All fitted now and looks much better.

Same kit? Eurocarparts? I was toying with buying a second set for the highbeam. But then I've got a spare set of Osram Nightbreakers which will do the highbeam job well. Hmmm. Decisions...

Yeah, the one you linked to. I couldn't wait for delivery so decided to go pick it up.

How would a second set/night breakers work? I thought the main beam was provided by a second filament in the original bulb since it's a H4 bulb (obviously now it's provided by the HID kit). I might be misunderstanding it though.

Fixed leaky oil cooler pipe the economical way, maintaining the original pipe by cutting off the old clamp and replacing with normal clips.

I don't know if it's the case across the board but my car has a second set of inner main beam bulbs - on high beam the primary H4 switches to high beam and the inner high beam bulb illuminates concurrently giving you two headlights a side on high beam - I don't know what bulb it has - probably a H3 - maybe I need to do some research on it?

You're right and I'm wrong. It does have a second bulb for the main beam (referred to in RAVE as the inboard main beam) can't find out 100% which it is though.
