Made a start on the dreaded td6 gearbox.
Heatsheilds off
Rear props off.
Exhaust is down.
Cradles off.

Still need to get front prop and transfer box off.
Gear cable.
Electrics to unplug.
Cooler lines to unbolt.
Undo 3 bolts in the torque converter.
Undo the gearbox bolts and remove.
Swap cooler
Fit new one done

Here's hoping its done for tomorrow did an hour tonight and starting again at 7am. With a pair of hands to help.

Sort of want it for next week. Working 90miles away from home next week and traveling there and back everyday

I dont know why you just dont buy something that needs work on it, and you fix it up, better than buying a mint one, you made it yours then

I dunno what the market is like over there but I have never heard of a "minter" P38 that ran any length of time without giving some sort of trouble.

These cars are now WELL past their design lifespans and mechanical and electrical troubles of some description or other is par for the course and even if it doesn't have any gremlins lurking around upon delivery, it'll develop some in very short order.

If it were me contemplating the purchase of a P38 today, I'd look for a mint interior, no rust, no mods, non-leaking EAS (drops no more than 1cm in 24 hours when parked with engine off), all electrical toys in good order, no blue or white smoke from the exhaust (no black either if a v8), a diesel if possible... no obvious mechanical issues, and take my chances with the rest.

This isn't a car like, say... an E30 BMW or R129 Mercedes where you focus on getting a minter in the expectation that it'll demand no more than good maintenance and the occasional repair to keep running. They demand much more from their owners than that.

Guessing you’ve not had time to play with the jag engine. Have you seen anything of Gorsky?

The kid I am doing the Jag engine with is working abroad at the moment so that's probably on the backburner until the weather improves and he's back. I need an ECU before it can run anyway.

Saw Gorsky a week ago to pick up some of my things he'd borrowed. He's picked up some work so hopefully might have some funds soon and we can pull his heads and see what's up with his v8.

Wise move,if he cannot find a oil leak then I wouldn't trust him with anything else, its not rocket science when all said and done. Was that why you may have been up on the Wirral?
Yes. No doubt he will get it sorted but for now i am keeping clear of them. Get xmas out the way and then maybe i might start looking again or maybe not.

Something makes me feel he’s a V8 sufferer more than an oil burner also. Like it be more his thing?
Not at all and your dead wrong. I have owned many V8's and V12's and never had any trouble with them. Also had loads of Diesels and no issues with them either. Its all a personal preference in what ive bought and owned over the last 40 odd years. Owning a Range Rover has always been on my list and sadly its just been a disaster so i think i will just forget the idea and move on and enjoy what i have for the time being until something else crops up i like.

You have just described as what i refer to as a minter.

I went back to mine and changed the water pump quite an easy job, I did like the two bolt holes to use to push the pump out as you screw the bolts in,
Went for the bearmach one with belt for 36 quid in the end, temp seems a little lower now time will tell.

Geez! That looks NASTY. Are you sure you got all the bits out?

I know there are still bits in there but all i could do was pour water down the top hose to try and get more out but none did, i may well pull it out again now the car is home and try and flush with a hose.

Good luck man.... that has never happened to be yet(!) and I hope never to experience it. I hearsay there's an aftermarket offering with metal impellers but can't find it. If I do, I'll be replacing mine at the first opportunity.

There are loads with the cast metal impeller over here, the killer will be the shipping for you:(

You're not kidding. I just ordered a crankshaft damper...... £77 just for the shipping!

It's a BMW one, not our STC3345 (yeah I have the part number memorised)... and I sure hope it fits when it gets here after me paying for it and all that shipping!

Give it a flush. I took grrrs advice and glued the bits together one by one until I was sure I had it all. Hose pipe through the top. Mine was worse than that though so bits were smaller/easier to come out.

Ouch:eek: thats a lot, what you need is someone who works out there now and again who can bring bits over in there luggage:D

Wondering if the temp sensor for the hevac is working. When the cabin is cold, are the blend flaps supposed to open fully so it blows HOT until it reaches the desired temp, or just blow harder?
