Iv got one of each, p38 4.6 v8 and an l322 petrol 4.4 v8 on lpg and to be fair the l322 hasn't given me any real trouble.
Yet I almost rebuilt the p38 almost from day one it's now a cracking example iv yet to decide if I let it go as iv hardly used it this last year

Had a look at a 4.6 p38. Not without issues but nothing that cannot be fixed. Only issue is how much will it go for ... and how do I justify a second money pit?!

What would cause the outside of the rear tyres to wear? Roundaboutitis the nearside but the offside too? Viscous coupling failing?

That's the problem. You put all this work (and money) in to get it right and then if you don't use it then it'll get niggly from damp, the seals dry out etc. Sell it and you'll never make your money back, even writing off disposable items like oil, tyres, airbags, brakes, ball joints ... Clutches, head gaskets, hubs!

At risk of upsetting the fickle gods...
Do you think any of us are stupid enough to say it is running fine?
Cheers

I also run a p38 and 2011 model 4.4TDV8 L322. I also used to run a 4.6 p38 - and in terms of trouble - the 4.6 was a money pit like no other, issues with dropping cylinder linings, overheating, blowing Head Gaskets, Air con and heating issues, usual EAS problems of course - that car seriously left me out of pocket - not on the normal RR scale of out of pocket - but an order of magnitude more than any other RR I have owned.

The 2.5D P38 - has been quite expensive - but nothing in comparison to the 4.6 - and in part it is because I have been giving it a bit of a thrashing around the green lanes and causing it some stress.

So, deep breath - so far the L322 has been a dream - I have had a couple of expensive repairs - again, I took it off road and got water in the rear diff' - which surprised me because you should be able to take a RR through a puddle - so a new diff was a bit 'ouch', (although I tracked down a company that re-conditioned my own for £250 - so that was not too bad) - and I have had a couple of incidents with other drivers knocking my mirror off - and apart from one that I managed to get done on their insurance, that is pretty expensive too. But from a maintenance and reliability perspective it is has been a dream so far. And talk about comfortable - mine was initially specified and built for one of the Directors of JLR - so its a top spec' Vogue SE with the entertainment upgrade and the Drive Assist package and the Autobiography upgrade - it is fantastic, and although I should not take a car that cost me as much as it did and is as precious to me as it is off road - It is a RR so I had to - and it is phenomenally good off road, 3" extra clearance over the P38 makes a big difference in ruts, axle twisters it does with ease - the only down side is that the super large Brembo brake callipers mean that you can't fit anything smaller than a 20" wheel on them - so you can't fit anything thicker than a thin profile road tyre - so you can't take them any where rocky unless you lift them and modify them, (the 4.4's I'm talking about), but even with road tyres I was amazed at how capable it was.

Took the P38 out for a bit of cautious fun as we were on our own - did some green lanes around Salisbury, weather was lovely, lanes were great and nothing went wrong.:)

Is it me thinking this or is the L322 just a bunch of trouble? seems like so many different problems on the L322 compaird to the P38
I have thought about an L322 a few times but having seen the issues on here and the number of people who whish they had kept their P38 I think i'll stick with mine until it becomes just not feasible anymore. Anyhow having just put 80ltrs in the tank at the equivalent of £42 running a 4.6 here is not too bad.

Alignment?

On the rear? I didn't think you could adjust it? There's the panhard rod bushes I guess. I'm trying to picture what else is under there but my memory is failing me. Must have a picture somewhere ... radius arm bushes. That's about it!

Not sure about RR. But wearing outside is normally a toe in/out issue.

Nothing on the rears. Front tyres wearing on outside too much toe in. On inside too much toe out.

Is it a major hassle to get the front grill out? The previous owner installed some crappy LED spots and the wiring is a total rats nest in there. It would be far easier to sort if I could get at it from the front.

Pozi screws on the top.

And 2 torx screws in-between the bottom slats.

Easy.

Just pulls off.
