Window broke last night. Turns out the rivets have broken on the regulator mount. Now I know at this age p38’s have been badly treated but look at the state of this. Going to order a new door protector
 
Fitted a new battery yesterday as the cold killed the old one.
Guess what, 4am this morning with a flight to catch, no go! And of course the range rover was parked across the drive blocking my other cars in so a jump start wasn't looking promising.
Anyway, noticed that although the heater lights went out when turning the key, the headlights stayed bright. Also the charge indicator on the new battery was fully green.
On closer inspection, noticed that although it was in Park, the led was showing R. Quick shift to D and back to park and away she went.
Always worth checking if yours won't start that it is actually fully in the park position.
Panic averted!
(I have ordered one of those lithium battery boosters just in case but it won't be here until Wednesday. Hopefully I won't need it now but reassuring to have it!)
 
Picked her up from Gibsons. Just glad to have her back. Although the debit card has had a chunk of plastic shaved off it! Just to keep me on my toes, she waited until I jumped back in after doing the shopping to go 'ping' key battery low " ping ". Bitch could've done that BEFORE I went shopping. So back to the shops immediately to get new batteries. Replaced it as soon as I got in. Then went out to check she was still talking to the fob. Thankfully, she is ........for now.
Onwards and upwards, chaps and chapsesses.
 
Took it for an early Mot past with a couple of advisory's, ball joint on steering and oil cooler pipe leaking a bit, and the nice guy let me have a look while he was underneath and pointed out the rubber hose on the tank to filler neck is starting to go and the brake pipes that the flexes go onto are starting to show some rust, so that means more to do when I drop the tank for the pump :( the list is getting longer just need the misses to stop driving it so I can spend the time doing the jobs.

I just cut that pipe when I dropped the tank. Saves time and it is cheap and perishes anyway. Saves taking the liner out and whatever else RAVE says.
 
^^^ Ahh well at least its a known one and not some new weird hard to find fault.
Which makes a nice change. Although I will add the reason it wasn't 'bedding properly' ,was because it had been placed back incorrectly and the motor wasn't working. So every time I did a visual check it 'looked' as if it was in the right place because it hadn't moved :rolleyes: However, it was still draining the battery despite a u/s motor.
 
Did nowt to it as such, just went visiting some friends. pulled up in their long drive and settled down to cakes and coffee and wine etc. The lady owners phone rang and was answered, then she said to us her niece was just arriving, she had rung because when she saw the RR parked in the drive she thought there might be some important people visiting.
Peed ourselves laughing for the next 5 mins. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
 
Drove over to the MIL's (an 87 YO lady) and got her crap Peugeot 207 car started for her with my charger/starter.
 
Finally had the time for a good 200 mile run after having the head gaskets and all the other stuff that comes with the kit fitted. Great drive only spoilt by the crazy stupid Russian drivers who choose to ignore all road sense. No wonder youtube is full of them.
 
2 new tailgate gas struts arrived today. The cold weather has shown up the weakness in mine with it starting to sag. Will fit tomorrow
 
Had a look at the invoice. Two calipers (the judder issue) ,, brake pads, headlamp wiper arm, headlamp wiper motor and something I can't remember. Also got a fluids service. This vehicle and I have been through a lot and I really do still love her. I cannot , barring catastrophic failure, see her leaving me any time soon. She is almost 16yrs old, with only 118k on the clock, I think I would like to see her with me for a lot longer. BUT we all know the RR gods are not benevolent gods, so we shall see :D
I have quite deliberately not driven her since pick up on Monday. Tomorrow we will see if the drain is sorted. Green oval (black for some , like mine ;) ) owners must be unique, in that we get our vehs repaired, maintained and looked after, then wait to see what is wrong immediately afterwards. :D:D:D
 
Had a drive out to a garden ctr to buy some shrubs today, got back home and the central locking threw a hissy fit and refused to work.
Had some lunch, got dressed for fecking about in the cold, got the tool kit out of my 90 to start taking the door panel off to access the main actuator and the locks worked? Hadn't done anything to it, perhaps just the cold?, tried for ages to get it to fail again but all good. If it fails to unlock when out and about I can always unlock both fronts on the key, so not too bothered.
So while I had the tools out I fitted a couple of clear festoon lamps to the underside of the bonnet, doddle to fit in the place where the originals should have been. Right chuffed that I've managed to fit something that works first time.:):) Bought off VWP for pennies, well I think they were £1.50 each amongst a shipping order of relays/fuse holders/cable to make up "boomslang" type harnesses for Buttercup and my 90.
 
Another MOT passed!

That's the 11th without failure since I've had it. Tester said mechanically very sound-slight corrosion underneath.

Things are playing up though. Had Rick unlock the BeCM earlier this year (battery went flat) and so far so good. Still a problem with boot release and interior lights though-cannot open boot until interior lights go out and cannot disable interior lights. Has been an ongoing issue for quite a few years (BeCM?) Also ordered a new boot solenoid as old one is getting tired.

Still got a bloody water leak from windscreen-will have to replace it and the headlining is starting to drop.

Sunroof will open but not close-suspecting the switch (may again be BeCM) and need the radio code.

So not too bad for 11 years! one FTP and that was under the car port.

Steve try sealing it like I did a while back. Where is yours leaking from?


The upper tailgate has been a bit iffy to shut since I’ve had the p38. It got slightly worse when I changed the lower tailgate. As long as the bottom wasn’t opened the top would shut every time. Top would take a couple of goes if it was. Since the new taligate struts have been fitted this has stopped. Bonus!

I've tried sealing it for the last 11 years.
It stopped leaking for a few years after using Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack cure-I'll try again with it. It's leaking from the top seal.
