I had to go to Newcastle hospital yesterday, transmission was making whirring noises so hubby got some more ATF and filled her up, he over filled and the car started smoking, opened hood to find a lot of smoke and a little combustion, I crapped myself, ran for some thing liquid and dowsed the flames. Was late for the appointment and had to hobble all the way back home, I've hated that car more today than any other day. Why does bad things always have to happen to me :(

Don't blame the car, blame the dummy that over filled it.

Got to be careful with the ATF filling.

As you've found out, ATF is flammable!

Have you cured the whirring?

Don't think so, can't afford to drive her around or even get permission to drive her, it's our only car and we're in the middle if moving. I miss the days when there were no problems

finished getting the bumper in primer and started painting got a light coat on

now the big debate colour code the wipers or back in black? Colour coding wont be that obvious as its a dark grey colour anyway, wouldn't have bothered but the half arsed brush job was annoying

Checked diffs?

Hubby is adamant it's the transmission, it makes a rumble whiring noise, kinda feels like a rumble of a HGV engine brake. It's got me concerned but I'm stressed out cause of the sale of my house, they buyer is fafing around, think she's backing out so now I'm even more strapped for cash. I hate these people wanting everything for nothing.

Getting seriously fed up with it now. I noticed that the transmission tunnel was getting really hot and I knew there was a few drops of oil around the gearbox so assumed it was getting low. So I drained the oil and changed the transfer box gasket.
I wondered why I had less and less room to work in, it seems I've punctured both of the left hand tyres bringing into my garage.
Took the propshaft off to change the rear output oil seal, realised I don't have a big enough socket to undo it.
Gave up at this point, going to put the prop back on tomorrow and fill it back up with oil. I need to get a front output oil seal as well and try and find gaskets for the overdrive.
Oh and whilst I was under there I noticed the boge self leveller was just flapping around, it had unwound itself at the ball joint end. It's knackered anyway so wasn't making any difference.

Been offline a while. Well just off the phone to my insurance. They've just had the rangie down to them as the police kept hold of it for investigation. Hope to have a valuation soon. And get shopping for another rangie. Been running the 98 passat 1.8t and its horrible i hate it still for a 250quid car she passed mot with needing a set of rear pads.

Refurbed an old EAS compressor for an emergency spare. 30 minutes - getting reasonable at this now!
