Hi everyone

I've noticed for a while the the gear stick has a lot of play in it. Forward & backward is fine & it goes into gear perfectly. Gear changes are smooth.
But for some reason the stick can be wobbled side to side while in gear & it has a lot of lateral movement, similar to when it is in neutral!
Can anyone suggest what might cause this & how to rectify it?
Did Freelanders ever have a crisp smooth action in the gear stick or was it always a bit loose?

The bushes in the gear linkage get worn. My td4 is worse than my l series! You must be able to get new parts don't know what cost

Also the linkage pin works loose then all of a sudden no gears, happened to me easy fix and use a tie wrapp to prevent happening again...

i asked this question to as i have a td4 with a wobbly gear stick ,i agree its def the bushes and from under the car it looks very much like a rover metro setup with the bushes that hold the gear stick under the car but the rest of the linkage looks like a rover 200 set up (as in a pg1 ) but like said td4 do not use the PG1 gearbox

after asking on here i found our gearbox is a GETRAG 282
but as of yet ive still not managed to track down what bushes to use

Wont one of the main suppliers or lr have some part no. S for you if you give them yr vin?

You're right. I'll have to find a LR supplier.
Until now I've not had to use one.

This is how one of the bushes from the kit looks
