So, looking at replacing the camshaft in my D2. Main reason is because its done 110k and doesnt look like its been very well looked after in the engine department!

So what do i go for? It'll be a kit of some sort with new lifter, chain and gaskets........

Brief rundown of D2, standard ex fanimolds at moment, looking for tubulars. Heads will be sent off to be ported and polished maybe so 4.6 valves too. Dont want to lose low down torque as drag a tin snail around with it, but would like a bit more grunt! :D

depends on the ECU

GEMS - same AFM and it adapts very well
BOSCH - can be fine without adaption but you can ge the ECU changed to NAS spec 4.6 using autologic I think or a trip to the dealer

Kent cams H180 is the best all-rounder for LR application - works particularly well with an autobox - great torque from low-down and about 22 bhp extra and just slips in - new lifters, timing gear and away you go. You have to shim the rocker arms to eliminate excessive overlap but this is done by eye and very simple.

You can get a full kit from Turner Engineering - very friendly and will happily talk you through it.

Real steel Hurricane also good but they haven't got any - the old fella who grinds for them has retired and they can't find a replacement(as of last week anyway) - they have a waiting list, believe it or not.

I have fitted the H180 to two 3.9's, a 4.2 and a 4.6 and have been impressed every time.

just realised you said Disco 2 - all of above were hotwire or carbs - you need a Gems/Bosch - specific cam

Piper torquemax ideal - get from RPi who have worked with Piper to develop it - make sure you tell them is for a Gems/Bosch engine.

only real difference is the cam retaining plate on serp engines - just get a groove machined into the cam to accept the plate
