Hi all,

I need to replace my rear brakes. However I'm a little confused on what parts to order... Looking on paddocks for calipers there are 2 types... 'rear caliper new' and 'rear caliper new AP.' Also looking for new discs what am I best goin for? Lockheed, mintex or 'replacement'. Sorry for asking a stupid question, I don't want to get the wrong kit.

Cheers

Depending on how worn/rusty your brakes and axles are, it might be a good idea to order up some replacement caliper bolts. They are 12 point bolt heads (rather than normal hexagon) and are a non standard profile (look on ebay). Mine were very rusted and were a pain to get out. Had to hammer on undersize sockets for a couple of them. The rear ones were a particular pain because the suspension springs make it difficult to hammer anything onto the bolts.

Also, if you're changing discs (i.e. removing the hubs), make sure to order up new tab lock washer thingys for each wheel you're doing, and hub gaskets and/or the right gasket paste stuff.

The defender workshop manuals can be downloaded (google it) and give a good step by step guide with torque settings etc. And u-tube is great also for showing you practically how to remove and replace the hubs.

A copper faced hammer will be very useful and you will need loctite 270 for the refitting (the disc bolts).
