I'm thinking of replacing the battery on my RRC - it hasn't failed me yet, but is always a bit slow to start on cold mornings and even though I have put it on charge for a good couple of hours, it never reaches (fully charged) so am dubious as to how long it will last.

Can anyone recommend a good battery, or what to look for? I seem to remember a feature in LRO a couple of months back but gave the mag away!

Numax all the way! Swapped my battery out earlier this year and what a difference, so much more cranking power and although it isn't really cold yet I haven't noticed any difference even after its' been standing for a week. Apart from that a Numax battery is cheaper than most standard 072's or whatever they are now.

Get the one with the biggest cca and big amp hrs if your going to run an inverter off it when you do your trip

Got a 125 Ah and 1000 CCA deep cycle battery for something like 119 euros at Battery Megastor UK (they have a ebay shop in France too).

Negative is reversed like P38 OEM battery.

It's a boat battery : Silverline DC31 model

I think it depends on what your RR is used for Mike, obviously if you run a winch then greater staying power is needed but if not then a standard battery from your local auto-shop will be perfectly adequate. Experience over many years/vehicles has taught me the futility of paying silly money for batteries, as one that costs twice the price (of a standard) never lasts twice as long. My current (no pun intended:D) battery cost about £60 & is still giving faultless service after 2 years, despite the fact that the RR only gets used about once a week, usually covers less than 30 miles in the process & it never needs charging from an outside scource. It sounds likely that your problem is associated with the charging circuit, put a meter on the battery terminals (after a run) & you should be getting at least 14.4 volts with the engine running.

You pays yer money (etc) Mike. Like many electrical products the 'unknown' may well be made by a household brand manuf. Don't get over excited by the longer warranties offered by some though, many are only actually for one year & then replacement is at the percentage of unused warranty. So if the battery fails at 18 months into a 3 year warranty you'll have to pay half the (current) price of a replacement.

Thanks norseman! I ordered the Alphaline earlier today for the great CCA, hopefully it won't be totally crap!!
