Just upped comp ratio to 10:1 on me engine - i wanted to use high squish pistons....

...And what a pain in the cock that ended up been....

Just finished machining the manifolds to align on the heads again Took off 1.6mm from faces which moved bolts position about 2.5mm.

Also I've machined a thin wall spigot bush for Series 3 gearbox at 0.7mm thicK!!!!!! Fitted nice though....

ooo , I sae a p5 10.5:1 motor on ebay for £100 a while ago but it put be of incase in pinked like fook on regular fuel
 
I built a 4.6 with 10.25 to one goes well on gas and petrol but as it is on Thor injection system will adpt really well not good if it is 14cux with dissy

You can go much higher than 10:1, but everything gets more critical, timing, combustion chamber shape, size, squish and quench area etc..... In terms of power gains - its not massive, and you can certainly get much more, more easily from other means i.e porting, polishing, friction reduction, lighter weight components etc. When you weight up gains - v's risks (Pre ignition, colision chance, temp rise) its not worth a w4nk pushing it highter than 10:1....

A well built X-flow 4 pot might be running 11.5:1......

But to be honest, as I'm learning pretty rapidly, messing around with a RV8 is expensive, time consumbing head ache with no easy solutions, and with a lot of people with good idea's who havn't actually done it....

If you want more power, save yourself the time hassle and money (LOTS) and buy a create LS3 engine.

i'm currently building a 5.2 rover v8 10.25 comp big valve heads special piper cam fully ported and gas flowed inlet manifold and 86mm throttle disc plenum aiming for 400 bhp with my maths is right should see 30mpg on a run round toen 20 mpg so for me a rover every time

Three good reasons why:

1 Parts are 1/4 of cost of rover v8

2 You will be able to get then in 5 years time (RV8 parts are getting really hard to find now)

3 550BHP = £5,400

Pretty conclusive.....
 
What's the chevy 5.7 V8 like? I've been offered one for £150 and i fancy the idea of shoehorning it into my 2a!
 
Chevy is a cast iron lump and weighs more than a rover v8 and in some cases can and will blow transmissions up and as far as I know currently I don't have issues for parts
