this doesnt make any sence how can they say 80/90 when land rover said 75/90... this is why i need to find out what and how this api **** means and how it partains to gear oil. and my butler is sick so im stuck doing it

API gravity [American Petroleum Institute] (degree API, °API) petroleum processing A scale, expressed in degrees, for the volumic mass of petroleum liquids. Used for liquids less dense than water, it is structured identically with the Baumé scale for such liquids, except that it has its set temperature at 60°F rather than 10° Réaumur (12.5°C, 54.5°F); readings are thus about 1% greater than Baumé.

If S is volumic mass in kg·m −3 , and D is the API degrees, the two relate as follows: S × (131.5 + D ) = 141.5,  hence D = (141.5/ S

wow this is crazy what i really need is what does the LS and the R stand for and can i use the 75/90LS in place of the 75/90R

Castrol epx80w90 specs

Castrol Syntrax Universal 75W/90 is a part synthetic multigrade gear oil which employs advanced technology additives to ensure extra protection at extreme low and high operating temperatures. Tested and proven, this SAE 75W/90 multigrade gear oil is synchromesh compatible and designed with a low chlorine formulation to allow environmentally responsible disposal of used oil.

It meets the need for a 'universal' gear oil which can be used in automotive manual gearboxes, transaxles, transfer boxes and final drives where stringent performance specifications including API GL3, GL4 or GL5 must be met.

It is suitable for all units requiring a gear oil of SAE 75W, 80W or 90; including multigrade formulations within this range, e.g. 75W/90, 80W/90 and 85W/90.
