Pinion bearings collapsed in the Salisbury axle so will require Bearing, pinion & crown wheel. Prob a couple of reasons why these gave way: -

Didn't have correction arms on at the time
Using the front prop of a discovery (may be a tad too long) also not wide angle but did not bind.
Didn't change the oil as often as I should - too many times through the water!
It's said I'm a bit too aggressive with it - but it's my off road toy

To get me up and running the cheapest option was to buy a complete 300 axle, but since then have broke another diff (which I have now replaced). I'm now looking into using the P38 4 pin internals into a 300 diff as I can get hold of one FOC (as well as 3 2 pin P38 diffs which I will sell cheap)

You need to machine the rear face and strengthening ribs down alot! The outter diameter then needs reducing again to clear the case the bearing spacing isn't the same so you need to deal with that also. It's not a quick job and needs some machining time plus you may aswell pin the case as this is easier than modifying the diff centre in reality. If the cross pins are 15 mm type then I'd sell on and go for the 18mm cross pin version however this still has the problem that the pins are wasted to clear each other and are not built into a nice spider using an inner ring allowing a shaft to pass through which is far far stronger and a lot easier to get broken Halfshafts out

Cheers Jai, It sounds like I should sell the P38 diffs and have mine rebuilt using the uprated HD R & P and have if pegged for £485 - or the cheaper option is £385 for pegged & std R & P.

I have a genuine 3.5 4 pin not pegged ready to go bot in its for sale at £300 which I know is high end price but this diff isn't that old or worn pegged it would be strong as you get pretty much J

The watersplash that runs along side of the woods was deeper than the main water hole! My truck did not make it through, I was lucky and managed to reverse it out, it coughed and spluttered and had very little power, but it cleared and continued to run, Lucky I didn't bend the rods.

Should have some more rubble put down for the next session, ruts are quite deep as you go left after the main bridge. Just need filling in a bit to give std trucks a chance to get up there.

I'm looking to open another old track, it's approx 500 ft long with approx 10 inches of water, the bottom feels quite solid (but I'm sure it will sink!!!) It's in the bottom left hand corner, turn left before the main bridge and go round the track by the stream. As you head to the corner the track is on the right, most people don't know it's there it hasn't been driven through for over Two + years to my knowledge.

I think I know the one you mean, a friend made an attempt at it early this year but didn't get very far and had to be winched out backwards

must be unlucky with the bearings, do you have spacers or big offset on the wheels?

No big offset wheels , no spacers , 265/75/16 insas
n using quality wheel bearings and seals n grease

they just dont like water n mud but i do n looks like ill have to just keep doing them

I saw somebody being winched out some time ago from the mud pit, being the left turn after the telegraph pole, the section I'm on about is past this point, you continue along the track up the bank where the bushes are you then go right heading towards the corner, to get onto the old track you need to bush through a lot of branches, you cant really see the old track and you would only go over there if you knew it was there. Not many trucks seem to venture into this corner now a days!

The clip below is of the old section I'm on about, I have cut the branches back and took my truck in as far as I dare whilst on my own! I think this will be a winch challenge section coming in from the other end. Hopefully the tree will be strong enough as an anchor point.
