Car details first, P38 2.5 dse auto (BMW engine) x reg (2000)

Okay, so I posted a little while back in the International rescue section. Basically, whenever its wet outside (or I drive through a puddle) I have a problem selecting reverse or Park. (Picture attached should show issue).

Someone mentioned checking the xyz switch as it could have a poor connection. What are the do's and don'ts about checking this connection (I do not have a fault machine thingy to clear any faults that pop up) Im using my car daily to get to and from work on nights at the moment.

If it isnt a soggy xyz switch, what else can I check? As Im going to pop under the car later when Ive slept before going to work, to see what the crack is.

Any help whatsoever is massively appreciated

XYZ switch, or connectors under there, check for pins pushed back in the connectors and corrosion, also check the cable from the lever moves freely and all the mounts are secure.
