Hi,

Recently bought a 300tdi, and have a number of jobs to do, whilst assessing the car, I noticed that the underside of the fuel tank is wet, seems to be light and oily, smells a bit like diesel, but unsure. I also seem to have a seeping rear diff (drain plug).

I'll deal with the rear diff. shortly, but wondering if this is a diesel leak...

Any know issues here to look for please?

Top pipes on fuel stand/sender rot out and leak, normally first sign is poor starting as all the fuel has run back.
Remove black rear boot trim piece, roll up carpet ,remove round plate, and it's all there.

Thanks, after butchering the the rusted out screws, this is what I found.

It's the return pipe in the sender, rusted away!

I guess a new sender unit is needed?

Nice find, paper towels and brake cleaner to clean it up, looks like new might be the way to go?
