I've noticed today that the underfelt in the passenger side footwell is soaking wet,the overcarpet is dry though so the water must be running in from below the dash area.It is not the heater matrix leaking it's rainwater but is there any common waterleak areas i can be looking for?

Have a good poke where the inner wing meets the bulkhead, under/behind the washer bottle, if it's concealed bonnet hinges, look under them also.

There might be several reasons for that.

In addition to the obvious rust and corrosion holes around the footwell area I'd check the following as well, if your car has air-con.

The air-con condenses water and has a tube that lets the water outside the car. If this tube becomes blocked the footwell carpets on the passenger side will get soaking wet. The outlet is located on the side of the bulkhead (passenger side) underneath the outer wing. Remove it and check the tube.

Thanks for replies,Theres no aircon on mine but what i did find was about 1/2 inch of mud in the recess under both bonnet hinges blocking the drain holes out of both sides of the scuttle panel and alowing the water that blows back off the bonnet in through the heater intake to fill up in the bulkhead and in through the heaterbox intake if that makes sense.Cleaned it out and fingers crossed untill we have more rain.

Hi,

My 1994 classic has just developed the same prob - did clearing out your bonnet hinge recesses sort the problem. mine seem ok but haven't atempted or indeed found the drains to check if they are clear.
