Today whilst changing a few bits on my 90 i thought it was about time i changed the engine mounts..

put the jack and block of wood under the sump, removed the nuts holding the engine mount on (200tdi)

jacked up the engine and smoke started pouring out from the back of the block and the brown wire at the alternator...

WTF i thought.. lowered it, had a quick look, stood on the front bumper to get a better look and more smoke...

Unplugged the engine wiring loom, jacked back up, and again...

had a look around the back of the engine and the brown wire that was smoking had burnt through/snapped...

No idea how....

Anyone?

Oh well mate it could have been a lot worse. A good lesson learnt without any significant issue. Next time undo the battery. :)

Did you change the mounts in the end?!

Yeh.. Well one.. The one under the turbo is a nightmare to get to the top nut so I'll sort that soon. Ive just done wheel bearings ect so gonna drive up to my uncles with my welder today as he's a welder by trade. Gonna get him to weld some d shackles to the underside of my rear x member for recovery.
