Hello Iv recently brought a 1988 classic 3.5 I currently in the process of finding all my lovely rusty holes 😜

I need to repair the nearside outer sill but I'm concerned about welding the repairs so close to under car LPG tank it is very close to the sill. Does any one have any advise on the best route to tackle this??

If I was to remove the tank is it as easy as draining the system then removing unions and removing the tank??
 
Normally LPG tanks have isolation valves so they can be removed. If you have any doubts visit an LPG installer for advise. Don't take any risks with welding near LPG tanks or lines. Remember the Landrover saying, "One life, live it".

I think removing the tank before welding is the best idea.

You don't need to drain the system, with the ignition off the valve on the tank outlet will be closed. Just undo the nut and remove the pipes from the tank.

You'll get a bit of gas escaping from the pipes, but it won't be much.

If you drive around until the tank is empty it'll be much easier to manage. Being a pressure vessel, they're very heavy when empty, full of LPG you'll need a jack or transmission jack or something to safely remove it.
 
Thanks for all the info. I was goin to remove the tank just wandered about the removal. By the tank there is a solinoid looking part. Should I remove the tank from this point. I'll put some photos on in a min to make it a little more visable.
 
Removung tank easy..just unscrew couplings.unplug wiring..asxstated they kin heavy.dont worry about
small amount of gas escaping..
When replacing use locktight 243 or similar .do please do gas leak test after..(washing up liquid in water just like what your kid blows bubbles with)

Sparks from welding are howxever very unlikly to risk any explision with lpg system..copper pipes
strong tanks etc..me i would be more concerned with petrol fuel lines.
