This maybe a daft question but do i need to remove the fuel tank on my 2@ when welding the crossmember. Going to bite the bullet and weld it me self . Been practising so fingers crossed. She is petrol. Thanks in advance

no need to remove tank for that job mate ,,just be aware it is a petrol tank ,so watch your grinder sparks ect ,,its not a bad job mate ,u can leave tub on and axle ,its all about measure then check then measure again ,,good luck with it

Depends if its a 109 or 88 though ;) 109 welding the rear crossmember with tank in you wont get a decent weld on the inside and its pretty dangerous unless the tanks fully drained and fumigated

I just had to weld chassis near my tank I shoved a wet towel down the gap between chassis and tank under the drivers seat to stop any sparks jumping up on top of the tank/chassis rail where all the fuel lines (and leaks) are. Made a right pigs cock of the welding too, I hate welding upside down.

When welding across the underside of the chassis rail, if you tilt the vehicle so there is some slope in the run of the weld it can help get a decent run.cheers.
