Oh dear, I'm not having a good day!
I've just been told that my 2000 Freelander's OSR chassis crossmember has partially detached itself from the chassis!
I've also been told that they should be bolted together but, somewhere in it's past, it had been welded. It's now making a horrible noise whenever I drive it.
Has anyone come across this before and does anybody have an idea of what sort of bill I'm looking at?

not actually had the sub frame welded to the chassis, the problem is osr was always a problem on the early freelanders I had it on my old one a 2001 what happens is the nut that is attached to the chassis comes loose whether it is down to not being tightened enough I do not think any one will know how I solved mine was to weld the nut into the chassis , although they are actually pressed in ,and you can get to them by pulling up the carpet and then there is a hole (I think there is tape over it) and shining a torch down and you will see the problem you will have to clean the weld off and get a new nut that will fit the studs and weld that in I do not know if you can get them now but it has all been done and it is on here somewhere. also you can still get the studs, and should be 190nm or 140lbs torque if I can do it you can.

a couple of hours, I dropped the sub frame , the body was on stands failure to make the body stable can be a nasty result, and then got stuck in and it never came loose again .
before I new what had happened I was getting load cracks and groans from the back that's why I investigate and found it.

Had mine done today.
It wasn't made easier by the fact that it had been bodged at some stage.
Someone had gone in by cutting a hole in the chassis, spot welding the long bolt to the nut & finished it off by welding the subframe to the chassis!!
It really was a mess.
Anyway, it was stripped out, a new plate welded under the nut after going in through the boot floor, a new diff bush was fitted and I drove away in a car that didn't creak & crack all the time.
Job done ................... boom!
