Can anyone recommend a decent small, portable Oxyacetylene kit.

I need to be able to refill the bottles easily enough.

You will need to rent the bottles from a BOC place or similar, you then just need regs, hoses and a nozzle which you can get from any hardware place for not too much...

^ thats the easiest way to do it. You can also buy bottles and get them refilled or swapped, short term its more expensive, but if you're going to get through a lot of gas it may make more sense?

It won't be used a huge amount but it's blummin' handy to have around the place.

Especially to free awkward nuts and bolts.

My father gave our old kit away including huge bottles about 5' tall. Gutted.

bottles would need testing before refilling wouldnt think your old bottles would have been any use ,would have to be rented,i was told acetylene is getting hard to find,wouldnt you be better with a propane kit

I've only ever known Acetylene James, so what other gas welding kits are there that will do the same job as Oxyacetylene?

I'm a plumber and I use mapp gas at work and on the Landy and fir lighting BBQ's

That's saydps its no longer produced tho, these are what I use in my tourch Todays Tools TODMAPP - Yellow Map-Plus Gas Cylinder 453g

what torch you using with these?

iv got oxy acet at home just not set it up yet, ut could do with portable for when out n about

Oxypropane

doesn't burn quite as efficiently, or so I'm lead to believe, but does the same job at the end of the day, and a fair bit cheaper too. the loss of efficiency is more than offset by the lower cost. allegedly.

I've used both acetylene and propane in the past, but never directly compared them. If its just for heating bolts etc, just a tin of propane and a torch would do the job, no need for oxygen as well.

I know BOC in colchester still supplies but yeah I have heard the same, most places are going over to induction heating now days any way, its on my list of tools to buy, they are handy pieces of kit...
