Morning all
Just a bit of info if you could please? I have a bit of welding to do - arches, chassis rails etc and wondered what the consensus is for thickness? Do most people go 1.2mm on arches and 2 or 3mm on chassis? I can obviously mic bits but just wanted past experience.

Bought a 151te on gumtree yest and will be getting gas soon. Will practice a lot prior to going to car.

Chassis is 2mm thick and body 1.2mm.

A lot of panels are available from YRM, AMAZING stuff and so much nicer to fit, did my D1 inner wings 6yrs ago and still look mint!

Yes they cost a bit more but long term cheap as chips!
 
That was going to lead me onto my next question also so thanks. I saw some are way cheaper than others and guessing there was reason for this. Also, Off on a tangent, with there being so many aftermarket available, is there a good place to genuine parts from? A lot of it is Britpart and I've read mixed reviews on this! I'd want genuine belt kit and waterpump in very near future.

Hi Resto.. Make sure you get CO2 Argon mix gas not CO2 on its own as this produces messy welds with lots of spatter.. I will be doing a short "How to" video covering techniques for welding thin metal i.e. 1.2 mm mild steel.. the area you are welding wants to be a clean as possible, bare shiny metal if you can. Never ever EVER clean the area your going to weld with brake cleaner.. this is extremely dangerous as the residue produces cyanide gas when heated by the welding process.. Its a very common mistake in garages where someone is trying to save money.. acetone is the best thing to use and it does make welding easier..

The technique I will do the video on is basically spot welding.. done right it can look very neat and tidy with minimal chance of burning through.. will also show how to weld gaps, and fill holes for when things don't quite fit right or you do have a burn through..

This is a great site and it shows you comparisons of genuine and a lot of aftermarket suppliers prices, then it's up to you to choose the one you want.

I selected filters just purely for demonstration purposes as there are a whole bunch of suppliers.

Thanks Nige I got it plus the converter pipe mask and a few bits. The amount I've emptied my bank this month is terrible lol. Hoping to collect the truck tomorrow and will get a project thread started.
