Bit gutted - I've made a school boy I think. I finally got around to setting up my mig - got converter for big gas bottle. Tightened up regulator and have just clocked the gauge (single type) is psi?! Do I need to take it back?

Do I not use the flow meter instead? I know most are dual head one psi one cfm. No idea why I didn't get a dual head.

Click the link, they are two separate parts, the flow meter screws on to the gauge, the one I linked is sub £15 delivered.

Dieseldog is right.. twin stage are more common but the gauge for flow rate is not very accurate.. always better to have the flow rate meter that deiseldog gave you a link to..
Little tip on that while we are on the subject... set the flow rate to between 9 and 11 no higher.. if you are getting porosity in the welds many think increasing the flow rate is the answer "more gas ugg ugg" it isn't and can actually make it worse... The gas should gently envelope the weld, not blow on it.. if gas flow is too high, the shielding gas creates a vacum in it's wake which sucks in air cancelling out the effects of the shielding gas.. most common causes of porosity are either a breeze which means your shielding gas can't do it job, or more common is spatter on your nozzle causing the gas to be diverted away from the weld..

Thank you gents I appreciate it. I got a bit of scrap from work and going to spend several hours on it before I go near car! The flow makes sense. I'm not nervous about setting it up lol. I'll check everything thrice though!
