Sounds like it could be the viscous fan coupling, does it happen when it's hot or cold, or all the time?

all the time..
i think it makes the noise when i'm coasting too. cos i thought at first it was the viscous coupling, but not so sure now.. its kind of a whiney/whurey noise. its hard to explain, i'll find out exactly when it does it, and let you guys know later.

cheers for the reply,

This could be related to your heater problem if your flaps are stuck you may be getting a whirring noise
