Well after using the TD5 for a trip down to dorset this weekend i have noticed a vibration at about 2000-2500 revs. After searching on here i think i have narrowed it down to the engine mounts or possibly the flex plate has cracked (its an auto). After having a look i can see that one engine mount on the N/S looks shot. I take it is better to replace these in pairs? reason i ask is the o/s looks quite new. Also is there anyway to check the flexplate for cracks? I really dont think it is this but after reading about it i would like to check.

Also noticed today that the power steering box is leaking from the output shaft. When looking the car over, before and after the test drive last week it was bone dry. As the car was layyed up for a couple of months before we bought it, is it possible the seal has dried out and caused the leak?

The optomist in me says "of cause thats what happened, also the drop arm will come off easily, fit a few new seals and all will be cured!!". However back in the real world i have told the wife to start saving (its hers...)

Not sure about the vibration. My steering box was leaking buckets (about 1/5 of the reservoir a week). I put some steering fluid in it with a 'seal swelling addetive, it seeps a little, but I hardly notice any loss of fluid. If yours is only leaking a little, I'd try some of that first :)

Ahh. good idea. It does not seem to be loosing much fluid but it does look a mess. I will give it a go. As to the vibration, im sure it the mounts as it does it in park. Will get some on order.

Ive got the same problem myself. After spending some time searching this site, it seems the best option unless you are mechanically compitant is to have it replaced with a reconditioned unit by a specialist. There are some great guides on here about doing the job but i felt a little unshure about doing it myself. Ive paid £330+ VAT for the job and it comes with a 12 month waranty. One thing to remember is your car will fail the MOT if its leaking at all.

the vibration is the flex plate/drive plate mine dose the same and has a horrible loss in power at about 2000-2500 revs
