Got a defender 90 2011 with 60k miles, already checked wheel bearings, the car was neglected for a while so i assume the sound started long time ago. Changed all diff and transfer box oils.

Just want to know if someone had this kind of problem of a low humming noise only at that speed, the noise doesnt change pitch, its a constant frequency at 60 kmh, before or after that speed the sound is totally gone.

Could it be tyre related? They can make all sorts of strange noises especially if they are old and worn/going out of shape
Tyres are in good shape, is a good diagnostic jacking the car up and accelerating to 60kmh to see if it isnt the tyres?

If the tyres aren’t in contact with the ground they aren’t going to make the noise and it would be entertaining if it came off the jacks at 60:eek:
I only have chunky firewood an the factory tool to jack de car up, will try it this weekend.

Its strange, the noise is only between 60-65 km/h. Could it be the gearbox?

l have a similar noise at exactly 65mph, it's my rear differential and has done it for at least 50,000 miles.
Doesn't do it below 63mph and above 67mph
