hi there,

been looking into insurance quotes for a discovery. 200 and 300 tdi.

am i right in thinking they are both insurance group 12? my merc is also group 12 but admiral want 600 extra for a 200tdi and 700 extra for a 300tdi!?

any one got any ideas why?
cheers

what merc is it?

Insurance companies are all over the place with prices, recently there's been loads of threads about peeps getting feckin stupid quotes, just shop around you'll find a much cheaper one soon enough.

its a merc 190e 1.8 but does the insurance group not take into account of the theft-ability?

to be fair the quote is still really cheap. 1800 for 200tdi and 1900 for 300tdi. im only 20 been driving named for 2 years. the annoying thing is, if i was to get a defender my insurance will give me money back from what i have currently paid for my merc. i just cant afford a defender :-(
itching to get offroad tho!

Forget about groups, they don't use them any more - well only as a very rough guide. They consider a number of factors, including high performance risk for young drivers, theft risk, repair cost, number of seats, etc in addition to the traditional group listings. Also, they'll target particular areas of the market, your customer profile of age, location, employment status and car obviously no longer fit in with their desired target profile.

ahh, that will explain why some are cheaper than others by quite alot. im not really fussed about the price of insurance, im young and its just one of those things. at least i dont drive like a prick most other my age!
just thought it was odd with them all being the same insurance group. i didnt think they used them anymore either to be honest.
cheers fellas

I got a quote for a V8 Defender a while back for fun to see what it would be it was cheaper than one for a I think a Pug 106. Shop around is best bet

i kno its hell! really annoying, but il have to i need to feed my landy bug! those insurers will only insure if you are over 21 or 25 :-( next year eh! cheers anyway fella.
