Hi,
Got a weird electrics issue. The rear windows didn't work when I bought my discovery. Resoldered the ecu and the left works fine now.
Got around to inspecting the right hand window today and found that it had been disconnected. Reconnected it and found out why:

  • When right rear window switch is connected the heater blower operates constantly, even with keys out.
  • When window switch is pressed (keys out) blower cuts out
  • When car is running window works normally, on both switches
I have no idea what is going on!!

OK, anyone know which earth it would be for these two circuits?
What i don't understand is- the window and the blower work fine independently. Why would they interfere with each other? Could the window switch be earthing the blower?

1.There's only one electrical grounding (earth)that is the body work and chassis, do u mean termination points if so try behind both foot well kick panels where u will find multiple connections to both earth points.
2. The circuit is faulty therefore taking the shortest path to earth via another electrical circuit.
3. Cristal ball time, but any thing is possible.

Yeah, where does the circuit earth to the body? I'll look at the footwells and clean up/reattach them, see if that helps. I'll also try swapping switches, see if that shows a faulty one.

Find the earth connection at the window switch and replace with a temp local earth connection as a " try out" to eliminate any earth issue at the switch, if there is one.
