Hello folks,
this is my first post on here, and having looked through previous posts I can't find anything similar to my query, so here it is. I hope somebody can help!
Landy: Series 3 88 2.25ltr Diesel 1983 (no mods)
I have spent three days doing various bits for the MOT, full brakes (although a full system wasn't required), and a few electrical problems. All went well (sort of) and the brakes were completed. I started her up and drove backwards and forwards just to check for any problems. None found in respect of braking. But I did leave a huge patch of rusty water in my path.
Looking under the bonnet and engine I could see a stream of water flowing out of somewhere. Odd, since there were no cooling system problems before, and not a little irritating!
So I snoop around and find where the water is coming from.
If you look at the engine from the front of the landy, and visualise the rad, water pump Etc. removed, you can (hopefully) see the timing cover bolted onto the block, and the circular recess that takes the impeller for the pump. Okay so far. At the top of the timing cover where it meets the block, roughly central, there is a gap between the block and cover. It seems that this is meant to be there as the gap is even, the edges are rounded and seem to be part of the casting of the t.cover. If I look into the gap and this is where the coolent/water is coming from I can see a polished surface and - I think - a hole about 2-3 in the face of the block.
As this hole corresponds to the rear of circular recess in the t.cover ( for the pumps impeller) I am wondering what is is, and why I am getting a leak there. AND WHAT A LEAK!
Any ideas experts? I use the Landy everyday, and ferry my five year old daughter to and from school, and being landyless is going to be an absolute nightmare. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Quick fixes especially!
If anybody thinks they could help but needs more info I'll glady phone you if you provide a number. Or I can provide mine.
Many thanks
Andy
