Don't know if its connected or not, but the other day I had to use gentle force to close the tailgate on a bit of luggage that was a tight squeeze to fit in. When I went to the drivers door, it wouldn't open. The button was up, but it was like the door was locked. There then followed all sorts of fun and games with the key, the key fob, the door button, the alarm bleeping, them going off, etc, etc, as I tried to solve the problem. It's now turned into an intermittent fault. What happens is, when I use the key fob to unlock the car, the button goes up and the central locking actuates and everything else unlocks. But the drivers door wont open unless I open the rear passenger door and reach over and pull up on the drivers door button. It only moves a fraction of an inch, as its already in the up position, but that's enough to get the door open without all the fun and games with the alarm.

I did search and can't find anything like this problem. Most other problems are either broken door springs or central locking not working at all, neither of which are the same as my little problem. Any ideas? (1997 300tdi)

Thanks 😳

LANDROVER DISCOVERY DOOR LOCK REPAIR SPRING, OFF SIDE | eBay

If you have electric windows it's a big job considering what it is as you have to take the window out to do it. it's all straight forward, takes a few hours and there is a link at the top of the forum about how to do it :)

You should be able to put the key in the door and turn it once centrally unlocked too, rather than having to reach round from the passenger door

Here's the LZ Guide:

I had a simmiler problem a few years back. I removed the door card gave every part of the mechanism good blast of wd40 and 3in1 oil and that fixed it. I would give that a try first saves pulling everything out of the door.

Yes, I think I will mate. Thing is, I don't think anything is broke because I've just been out there and everything is working normal at the moment. If I try it again in a few hours, it might be playing up again. It is an intermittent fault.

Thanks for the links, Bump. I had looked at the door spring sticky before but ruled that out as my problem.

Could I just tape the window up and remove the regulator to get to the latch mechanism to save removing the whole window?
