Aim:

50A power supply at rear of disco, fuse box running various extras (LED interior lighting, rear work lights, 12v socket and capacity for a fridge in the future)

Progress:

Ran the 50A cable in, decided to take it across the roof lining rather than under the Disco, I also needed to run in a few new cables to fix the rear wiper, screen washer, fog lights, etc. so put all the cabling in above the roof lining

Put a 4 port fuse box by the rear light assembly and installed 3 switches below the rear speaker:

Wired a work light on the back, but, it looks **** so off to eBay to find some better ones, I also intend to wire them into the reverse light feed

Put a LED light cluster in the roof too and wired that up to another switch.

Next job is to put a 12v outlet, although i'm going to look for something better than a cigarette lighter port as these always seem to shake the plugs out when driving along.

I also managed to wire my rear fog light switch to the brake lights by mistake  - turns out it's incredibly useful... had a tw@ right up behind me last night... a flick on of the brake lights as I accelerated soon sorted him out though :)

Just thought i'd post what i've done on the disco this weekend really... makes a change from all the "argggghhhh it's broken, help" threads :D

Nice little project going on there bud look forward to seeing what 12v outlet you use as I would like to do the same in mine

Regards

Nick

Looks good, love it when someone decides to take on a project & posts it. Gives the rest of us something to think about.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about posting it as it wasn't the usual "it's broken, help" or big restoration project. I shall keep it updated though.

I'm starting to build a database of what wire is what on a Disco too, as I can't find any information on this.

I have 2 240v inverters 1 350w in the front and a 600w in the back.
The rear one was a pain to fit as it needed large supply cables. so I used the same cable as
The cable I used for my winch. This also has the bonus of supplying 2 12v sockets.

600W inverter - 50A draw (peak) so 75A cable... i guess winch wire is rated to over 100A so that seems logical! Although it's a long run to do in thick cable... must have cost a bit?!

I'm considering a big inverter, although i think i'd put it near the front then run a length of 13A mains cable to the back - cheaper cable and less voltage drop over the run.

Nope the cable was cheep as I made it up 3m for the pos feed then 1m for the earth back to the chassis. Was £2.50 per meter online.

Put in a new supply and fuse box to the front of the Disco tonight and put in the first of my new connectors:

Nice secure locking system - far better than the pansy cigarette lighters which bounce out whilst laning
