Hi Every one
Been doing some major work on engine but whilst taking hose's of this spring and valve part fell out of
I assume one of the connections to system but because I found on floor afterwards not sure where it
goes can anyone enlighten me many thanks.
PS just done chain guides and timing chains etc sounds and runs great now bit daunting to start with
but with a lot of patience sorted

Would help if gave us a clue which engine, looks a bit like timing chain tension pin or even maybe part of egr cooler stat if diesel, could even be just one of those bits you have left over and have not a clue where it should go. With a bit of luck somebody more sensible than me might have the answer so dont throw it away just yet !

It does look like an EGR cooler stat. Normally in a plastic holder thing so haveca look see if you dropped it too or replaced without the internal bit

Thanks for your reply and comments
The engine is a bmw petrol 4.4 v8 the part is definitely a water related part 4

my engine Is a 2005 v8 4.4 petrol BMW thanks sorry I omitted to say first off and thanks it could be EGR cooler stat ifI knew where to check
it did have all water hoses off

Thanks RangeRoller dt the parts in my pics is how it was I thought egr valve was more for gases this is water but if you can tell me
where you part is located I will check many thanks
Some EGR valves are water cooled.

Some EGR valves are water cooled.
Thank you all for your replies have found where it belongs it goes in water hose at bottom of rad fixed to plastic plate dont know what its called but its in two parts
Very many thanks most probably back with some thing else

Thanks Rangeroller dt took a bit of time to refit one hand holding torch the other two fixing it back????
Anyway I told you I would be back.
after all the work doing engine whilst waiting for parts and with rangy on my ramp I decide to overhaul
brakes you know new discs pads and calliper re furb (well I do get a good pension after 55 years working)
Engine now runs like a dream ,but like every thing some thing else crops up !! D T C light on air suspension
inactive and also abs light on constant ,must be some thing amiss with brakes cant think what but have decided
to remove wheels and check but if you have got any ideas feel free .
has I have done timing tensioners chains vanos timing etc if any one who lives near me and are thinking of doing
same I have all timing tools I would gladly lend I would charge a fee but would give it back on return of tools
cant be fairer than that hope to hear all you comments

Check abs sensors, sometimes they are worn out but often just need pushing in. I’d check flexi hoses too while there, common issue.

Well RangeRoverdt Have gone through every thing again all seems perfect checked all wires with multi metre fine as all was OK before
changing pads and painting callipers (just to make em look nice) A neighbour and good friend with 50 plus years service as mechanic also
gave me a hand and said all OK .He did suggest I get some one with a good diagnostic kit to see if anything can be done electric wise he said
could just need reset H D C warning on and A B S have read some where they could be connected I know the come on for a bulb check
but supposed to go out when ignition started this is making me feel B M W built in things so us guys don't mess ,I must say I wouldn't if they
charge sensible prices

If you do your own work on a car like this then good diagnostics will save a lot of head scratching and money.
It’s nor considered a luxury these days.

Good luck :)

Someone had a problem once due to dodgy cheap rear bulbs with s model like yours, can’t be sure it’s same thing but what you said sounds similar?

HI there I know its been a little while , but remember me telling you I had some warning lights on !!
well after going through loads of right ups some one mentioned that the 3 lights could be connected
in some way ,my manual says if H D C comes up with A B S and brake light these also come on as
a bulb check ,but if don't go of a fault as occurred (heavens above)!! so I took the bull by horn so to say
and did a daring thing I got in my run about car (no sensors there ) well not what I cant deal with.
and went to the main dealers (arg !!!!) I picked a time near lunch time ,luck would have it parked about
100 yards a tuck shop van you may be wondering what that's got to do with my Land well I got talking
to the nice chap who run it and bought a bacon sandwich .now here's the good part whilst waiting he told
me a number of chaps from the dealers come and have there lunches there and he new them quite well
I told him my problem with my landy And he said he would ask one of the lads for me.
well sitting there enjoying my sandwich a lad came over we got talking after explaining what I had done
over the months he said Range ROVERS DON'T like been dangled on a 2 post and this is where my
problem started and started to tell me what I should do ( bet you are getting excited ) well first star engine
turn wheel lock to lock and H D C should should go out (I knew that ) If it does not drive it out of garage for
more space then go forward turning steering wheel from lock to lock slowly and do the same in reverse
got home did exactly what he said and low and behold out went all lights I'm so excited I can't stop writing
he told me what had gone wrong was the steering angle sensor had scrambled it's self hanging in the air
don't know if this si any use to anyone else but it sure makes me feel good .boom boom

Hi and thanks to all who gave good feed back on my questions, but just one more thing as I said in one of my posts
I want to buy a reasonable priced code reader and would like some advice.
Now you know my vehicle is a range rover L322 2005 v8 bmw petrol but but my daughter and son have other vehicles
and you all know who they turn to when something goes wrong !! so would like something that could cope
I have read in these forums of something called al comms but have not got a clue what it is ,and all so a
incarsoft lr2 for land rovers with other vehicles as well about £236 what do you chaps think ?

I've got gap iid and it works well and very portable. Buy it and add licences for the other two vehicles.
Pricey but pretty good in my experience.

We have the Gap but not cheap and vin locked (1 car) about £400 I think. But very pleased with it.
But i carsoft ( I think) seems pretty good.
One of the guys did a video with it on here so a search may bring it up, think it works on many, but not sure of its ability.
