Hi all
Ive just bought a 110 county with a sunroof and with all this lovely weather we are having it runs water in to the front from the the front corners of the roof, Ive got a hat but the Mrs hasn't so if I can find out where its coming in from what is the best thing to seal it with please :)
 
you be wanting THIS THEN to find the source of yer water.

TBH, if its a seal or seam thats leaking, anything on the top is going to be a temporary fix, the seal will need replacing, or a seam opening and resealing with the corrwect seal or a mastic like silkafex
 
Thanks for that, the ole girl needs a head lining kit at some point (when I remortgage the house) so will take your advice and make a temp fix and with the Water leak guide on here I should stand a chance of finding it! :)
 
Just buy a hat for the missus - most of the rest of us have given up trying to fix the leaks!
 
I love the guide, but at the risk of sounding like one.. what is 'Dum Dum'? and what's a mutton cloth?

Found an old repair in one of the front corners, will be on fleabay in the morning looking for Dum Dum, could be interesting!
 
wire brush it like you mean it and apply plenty of sealant. the two skins come apart. could also be coming in around sunroof and running down inside.
 
Dum dum is a proper old school seam sealer. Used to use it as an apprentice after welding. It's like a sticky black plasticine that never hardens
 
Hi,Thor. I've just registered ! I've got a water leakage at the rear side - on top - of my 1997 Defender 90. I removed its roof a couple of days ago in order to stick its plastic into it and also to find out where is the leakage exactly (I have a picture but I still don't know where attach it in this site). I must seal some points properly. Did you seal your Defender in both sides ?

I had similar leaks that appeared to come from the front corners of the roof & also assumed it was a leaky sunroof. Turned out that water was finding its way past the tops of the door frame seals (both sides) as shown below.
I used Loctite 595 to plug any gaps around the rubber door frame seals - no more leaks...

I've had a look on tinternet and Dum Dum is no longer made, so I've bought her in doors a hat while I look at Tiger seal and silka somethinganother marine sealant stuff instead. At least all this rain helps in finding the leak as it would of been a long day in the car wash! :D
 
Thanks for that, Ive ordered Tiger and Silka and 10 strips of Dum Dum that isn't but is and with the leak guide intend to seal myself in :)
 
Well I stopped my leaks on my 110 with an old can of Comma Seak 'n Seal and it actually worked - hasn't leaked for a year. Can't get any of the stuff anywhere but I'm sure someone will have some. I've since bought some Captain Tolley's Creeping crack Cure which is thinner, but may work. I know it sounds like a cure for a sore arse but I think it actually is for land Rovers etc.
 
crack and burst bits on the windscreen seal also let water in to the headlining,
I sealed everything on my 90 and i still had the river flowing out when i went a round corners, Turns out the very front of the headling is tucked under the windscreen seal so the splits on the top corner of the seal were letting the water in. After my windscreen had an accident and was replaced along with a new seal for £50 excess no more leaks and a nice new windscreen i can see out of
 
I've had a look today over the outside of the roof and the top seams have gaps, the gutters in each corner has gaps, the seams at the back have gaps and the front gutter over windscreen has gaps, the seal round the alpine lights also have a gap but the sunroof's good! I've got some silka marine juice so will be out clearing cracks in the morning and fingers and toes crossed no more roof leaks! :)
