hi i have a range rover 2.5 d 1995 with a small water leak from around by the alternator i was advised that it was the water pump and put in some k sealin it . it worked for a week but started to leak again what is involved in changing the water pump

thanks tony

K-Seal will not fix a leaking water pump but it might well clog the radiator. Not a bad job to do the pump. Download RAVE for details of how to.

its actually easy enough. was the 1st major job i undertook when i bought the range rover. be prepared for sore knuckles and lots of swearing getting the viscous fan off.....! oh and here's a great tip for you clout in in the direction below for the 2.5 Diesel

actually found some more pics that i took when doing the job, hope there of help
i made the mistake of removing the fan belt before taking the viscous coupler off, dont make that mistake or you will wreck your own head. also the hammer in the top pic i used? i hit it with the handle and holding the head just easier if you miss it will be a soft landing and you wont knacker anything.

Good luck!

hi p38 ireland lokking at the 2nd picture to the right has you look at it ..just below the alternator thats where it seems to drip from

would this still be the water pump

thanks tony

hmm im not quite sure what you mean, but if i were you id check the radiator hoses that there not perishing and leaking under pressure. its also worth pointing out if you do have a leak like that when the water hits the viscus fan the water can be thrown to a different location. if your not 100% get a look all round the engine as you can while running and see whats happening let it get up to temperature and then see if you can see any obvious leaks, also get a camera and get some pics of anything suspicious and post them up here so we can see.

oh one last thing. remember water always falls to the lowest point so if your talking about water under the rangie near the altinator side then it could be dripping on to an engine cover or something and ending up there.

good luck.
