Hi, Long and short we have house with water, we have an external tap on a shed this is mounted on standard blue water hosing, the rigid blue you saw through. I want to put an additional feed from that but the penny drops that our stopcock in the house doesn't control this feed.

I went to the outside "W" hole on the path expecting an external stopcock but there is nothing in it just looks like hard soil inside.

How can I isolate this ? Is freezing the pipe an option ? or is there some in place fitting which would allow me to screw something in to close it lower down.

The main stop cock for the property should be about 18" down (arms length) and not uncommon to have to dig them out to find the stopcock, i have spent many an hour digging down to turn them off, try that first or you can freeze the pipe or they do a clamp that will pinch it of but they are £35 in toolstation

Or if you brave and dont mind getting wet which in this weather is ok you could get all the new part done so you only have the tee to connect and do it live so long as you leave the taps open it can be done but please remember to get someone to film it as it could be quite a laugh to see

Thanks, yeahh arms length it was, I will have a dig around to see if there is any joy finding it.

These are good put an isolation valve before shed tap , just chop pipe push on turn off valve sort the other bits

Buy one of there ... https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-mdpe-plastic-stop-cock-25mm-x-25mm/28809

open the tap and cut the pipe approx 8" below the tap.
Fit the (open) stopcock to the pipe... close the stop cock.
Cut 4" off the pipe below the tap and put it in the T piece, connect this to the stopcock.
Connect the tap back on the T piece ...
Fit the remaining 4" piece of MDPE into the T piece

The MDPE fittings are really easy to do, much easier if you have a pipe cutting tool, and can be hand tightened to be watertight.

The stopcock is the responsibility of the water company, so if it fails and won't shut off give them a call.
I like the idea of doing it live though!!!

Just be careful you don’t end up dislodging anything. The last thing you need is a water leak, the expensive outlay of an local emergency plumber.
