Hi all, wonder if you could shed some light on this for me.

I have a 1994 300tdi and i seem to loose water on long journeys, if i go on the motorway the coolant light comes on after about 30 miles, yet around town its never come on, only ever at speed or long journeys, i got no water leaks, no oil in water. any help please??? also where is the water pump located??

blocked rad..gets too hot..loses outa overflow pipe???(blocked rad shows up under load)

does it get hot?

Look at the cap. Have the system static tested for leaks, a leak could be drying up on a hot engine. The engine will hot get as hot around town as it does on the motorway at speed so there will not be as much pressure in the system. Water pump is behind the fan.

headgasket is fine, not long been rebuilt from having piston work 18k ago. shall get it tested, i only asked where the pump was at i see it looks like a mini fan going round on the left hand side of the block, does it need to have a cover over the front as mine hasnt???

You have lost me there, a mini fan. Need a photo of that.
