Hi, I've poured 3 watering cans of water over the n/s gutter, checking inside between each one & didn't have any water trickling down where it did be so hopefully the gutter sealing has cured that but the bad news is I noticed water dripping off the heater box, doh. It is dripping from the top of the heater box and not from the joint, I knew I should have sealed round the intake! :( I'll have to take the scuttle panel off again . I did notice water around that unplugged 8mm threaded hole so I'm going to put a couple of bolts with sealer in those. The sunroof drains, I think the Mad Hat Man was referring to them being too short & possibly the water draining down them was finding its way through any dodgy sealing around the A pillar area. Hope this helps & I'll keep you updated.View attachment 223521 View attachment 223522 View attachment 223523
Hi, I have sealed around the heater inlet on mine, it was dripping down onto the transmission tunnel, that reduced the size of the puddle in mine. I will try the gutter sealant, I have filled the two 8mm holes with silicone but it doesn’t seem to have had any effect if I get home in the light tomorrow I’ll get some pictures

Hi, yeah I could kick myself for not sealing the heater intake whilst I was there. I've come home tonight after a downpour & along with all the water I poured over it at lunchtime I've had no water trickling down past those bolts like before so I'm sure the gutter sealing has sorted that leak. I left a drip tray below the heater unit & there was about 3/4 of a pint in it.

That’s about what gets into my footwell just from down the side

So today I've managed to seal the heater intake so once it's cured I'm hoping it will cure that leak. We've had rain this morning & there's been no water from the A pillar. I've also put some 8x12 flanged bolts, with sealer on the threads, in those holes. I've had all the roof covered apart from the l/h fr. corner just to eliminate the possibility of the water from the sunroof drain tubes causing any issues. Tomorrow I'll uncover the whole lot & keep my fingers crossed :).

That looks good, hope all stays dry, think I will put bolts in those holes rather than just sealant

Is there a drain at the bottom of the A pillar ? 'Cause if not, I think I'd rather leave those holes open so if there's water ingress I would know about it rather than have it accumulate and corrode the pillar from the inside.

The sunroof drain hoses run inside the a pillar and exit out the bottom so there should be means for water to escape below rather than build up to those bolt holes

I'm not sure quite how the water drains from the base of the A pillar after it comes from the sunroof drain pipes, I can't see up there until I remove the side steps but I have read on here that mud can collect around that area & stop the water running out.

Wasn't aware of that but as @Sam-td5-97 said, there's a drain hole right at the bottom of the A pillar. I'm enclosing an image I found on this thread https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/sunroof-drain-tube-exit-point.157091/ that shows its exact location.

My sunroof drain was blocked on that side I sent compressed air down the pipe and that blew mud out underneath the car, was quite surprising how much was in there

Hi, yes there is by all accounts a drain hole at the bottom of the A pillar although I've yet to check mine but I don't think they're blocked as the water was coming in was somewhere around the base of the of the windscreen part of the pillar, see my o p (if the hole was blocked it would have come in that lower unplugged 8mm hole first). I'm pleased to say that since resealing the gutter I've had no ingress down the A pillar & since sealing round the heater intake under the scuttle yesterday I've had no water in the footwell from there either despite steady rain since midday, so things are looking (dried)up. Droll I know.

Is yours all sorted now ? I think mine is as I've had no water dripping of the heater unit since sealing around it under the scuttle panel despite steady rain since lunchtime. So just to recap on all my leaks
1. Water leak which ruined fr. sunroof motor, cured by resealing sunroof frame to roof ( drain tubes weren't blocked).
2. Leak in r/h top corner of the windscreen, staining the roof lining. Cured by resealing the r/h gutter & or sealing the top windscreen rubber.
3. Water leaking into the fr. passenger footwell which was coming down the inside of the A pillar from dashboard level. Cured by resealing the l/h gutter & resealing around the heater intake under the scuttle panel.
4. Water sloshing from the rear sunroof tray. Cured by unblocking the drain tubes, sunroof removed & resealed to body just for good measure.
5. Leak down inside of rear side windows, the heated ones in luggage area. Cured by resealing around frames.
I hope this may help others but it's certainly not a definitive list of all the water ingress problems on a D2, in fact I've probably only scratched the surface. o_O:D

Hi, sorry for not replying I have been trying to get some photos in the daylight.
I have sealed my gutter and I am pleased to say it is looking dry so far,
Up to now I have:
- in blocked front sunroof drains
- sealed heater inlet
- sealed unused 8mm tapped holes
- sealed door hinges and door strap
- sealed front corner of gutter
- sealed grommet around wiring harness in bulkhead
This seems to be working so I will keep a close eye out over the next few days and keep you posted

While you're there, it's probably a good idea to remove the dashboard support bracket (pic #4) and treat it for rust. It will also give you access to the area behind it and the 2 bolt holes. When I did mine, I used a bottle jack and a block of wood to support the dashboard before removal. You have 4 bolts in total and removal + installation is a 5 mins job.

Good shout, I’ll have a do at that, cheers
