Hi, I have a 1999 Discovery. The head gasket went, so a new one has been order fixed by a highly recommended Landrover mechanic. However, the water bottle is always low, I refill it before every journey, even if only a mile or two, but i can not see a leak or puddle on the floor, any ideas? As I want to sell it ASAP. Cheers.

When did you get the HG fixed? Did you bleed the system properly? Was the head skimmed?

Hi, Head was done a few days ago. Only done about 10 miles since then. Not sure the meaning of skimmed. But im not sure what he did to it realy

Hmm...hopefully the system wasn't bled correctly when the HG was done, once its warm it'll need a bit of coolant topping up as the system fully opens.

Skimming the head is making sure the surfaces are 100% flat so they mate up perfectly..should have cost about £20

O rite, well where the surfaces meet they look like they have been skimmed. So do I just keep topping up the water and it will sort itself out after a while? And add some coolant...

Let it run for a good while with filler cap off..it'll 'burp' when the thermostat opens and the system is fully open, add coolant then to 'full' level. If you've only done 10 miles it wont have warmed up fully.
