HI team :):):):)
Just 2 quick questions...……...
1. Can anyone remember what that liquid window / leak fluid is called. You let it run into fine spaces such as around the windscreen and it runs through any fine gaps, then dries? I cant for the love of me remember what its called but I think it began with 'S'....
2. My old girl (Discovery TD5 Series 2), loses water slowly from the header tank. Not huge amounts, just needs topping up with about 1-2 pints of water every 200-600 miles. I know there is likely a suspect somewhere like a leaky rad or water pump, but because its so small, what's peoples thoughts about just throwing in some 'rad seal' or not. I know some say it can gunk everything up, but given that its just a small loss (and annoying), is it worth just throwing in some rad seal as a temp / longer term solution. (I hope its not a cracked head or gasket pushing it out) but again, is there anything I can add like that liquid metal or whatever its called to do a temp seal,:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for any advice in advance... as always, I usually get some fab responses on here as opposed to other social media places where you often get a load of 'joke'y comments and no real answers'... :(:(:(

@Dippypud absolutely first class mate, thank you so much for your super quick reply and ail link.
I didn't expect anyone to reply at this time of the morning, but I really appreciate it.
That's the stuff I was trying to think off.... It was on the top of.my tounge but I just couldn't remember it's name.... Old age lol o_Oo_O cheers mate, I'll get it ordered tomorrow morning

The decision to put rad seal or some other leak sealer in the cooling system can only be yours alone. There is always a risk, the question is, is the risk worth the benefit. My freelander 1.8 developed a leak but I couldn't work out where from, it was loosing a similar amount to yours, which I wouldn't describe as a small leak by the way. I put a can of K Seal in and it has stopped the leak, how long for, I don't know but it has been over a year now and no ill effects so far, (touch wood).

A good hiding spot for a leak is from the short plastic hose ( or on later models it is a blanking plug ) from the oil cooler which is hidden under the turbo, a good idea is to try the UV leak detector, which you can get a kit for about £15 including the lamp. MAkes searching ofr a leak a lot easier.

Ref the radweld, I have used it, and had no issues, but others say it is a big No No, it is entirely up to you. I may have just been lucky.

Cheers

Windscreen leaks keep the cooling system on it's toes mate ....

Only the white not the yolk ...
Aw shucks, I hate the white of an egg, as in boiled, poached, fried or coddled, except in meringues. So for me it is either the yolks alone or omelettes, scrambled, or, at a push, egg sandwiches. Yet we keep hens?!

I tried the egg in the radiator trick once on a Vauxhall Viva HB. It worked long enough to get me home, about 25 miles, but started leaking again afterwards. I ended up replacing the radiator, you could get them from a scrapyard for a couple quid in those days.

Be worth more than that for scrap now, good old brass ones!

I had a similar small leak on my Disco TD5, it was from that big screw in core plug buried behind the exhaust manifold. I’d only had the car a couple of weeks and hadn’t realised it was leaking when I did the usual warped exhaust manifold/snapped studs and only noticed when it was all back together and it started using about a pint every 1000 miles. As I couldn’t face disturbing the manifold immediately (and it can be a real sod to get that plug out to reseal anyway) I put a bottle of Kseal in and it hasn’t needed topping up in the last 2000 miles. They say it’s a permanent repair, whatever that means, but it does seem to work, in my case anyway.

WOW !!!!!!
So many replies and egg'celent advice lol.... never even thought of that one... I wonder if I was to add a little bit of 'corn flower' to the water system, it would thicken it enough to block some holes :D:D:D:D
Think I may take the Sikaflex, captaintrolley and SILICONE LIQUID SEEK 'N' SEAL a try first tho....

If they don't work, eggs it is :):):)
Cheers for the fab replies, and smiles it put on my face reading them on such a grim and rainy day :(
