I am having trouble with water dripping on to the rear laodspace cover on my Discovery (1999). I have taken it back to the main dealership, had the rear sunroof seal refitted and yet it still drips when it has rained. They have tested it several times and cannot find anything. The water appears to congregate under the roof lining and then drips at the lowest points behind the sunfoof. The vehicle is parked facing slightly uphill at night. Can anyone help?

This is probably no help at all but my 90 drrips from th roof when condesation occurs, this is quite regular and doesn't show wlth an hose pipe

Had Leak On Sunroof On Volvo 740----try Opening Sun Roof(s) And Spray Liberally Seal With Silicone Spray--this May Have To Be Done Periodically
But Works 9 Out Of 10

We are experiencing the sound of rushing water inside the roof of our 2001 Discovery. There is no obvious evidence of the source of the incoming water, nor any internal leaks inside the vehicle.
Any thoughts?

re sound of rushing water.
i worked in a ford dealership during the early 90s when the mk 5 escort was introduced.this became one of the worst products ford had released for many years.it became affectionatly known as the escort re call due to the amount of safety recalls owners received for rectification work.anyway enough of that.
one of these re calls was the sound of rushing water.rectification for this was to restrict water flowing through the heater in-let hose.the official ford part looked like a childs stickle brick.(hope you understand what i mean by stickle brick, these were a type of childs construction brick similar to lego.)
hope this helps.

Dear BevilReady,

Welcome to the World of Leaky Disco's. If your leak is in the rear loadspace area, then I woulds uggest that you strip back all your boot interior Trim and Roof linning. If your certain it's coming in froma high point then Check the Roof Rail mounting (if you have them), if you have an aerial cap plug (dead centre middle rear of roof) check it's sealed.
If that all fails carry out some simple water testing of the Gutters you may find that one or morre of teh Welded seals has burst open and is letting in water. If that the case then buy some Plasti Seam or Plasti Dip and seal teh required holes. leave to dry and then water test to ensure you have caught all the leaks. there will generally be more than one and as you've removed th roof linner you might as well coat all teh seals, and save yourself teh problem of having to do it all again in a few months.

Good Luck.

hi,i to get water settling on my load space cover if it forms two stains about six inch in from each edge its not the sunroof its the back door seal quite common, open rear door and you will notice at the top there are two allen studs wich hold the outer trim in place the seal forms itself to the shape of these two studs providing two nice gaps for water to enter when the door is shut if its this you are having trouble with i took mine out and replaced with waferhead screws wich have a smaller head profile, this lets the seal form its correct shape when the door is shut,i am surprised the dealer didnt know this as it is very well known hope this helps ,phil

I injected clear silicon sealant under the alpine window seals, after having cleaned out the rust underneath said seals with jenolite rust remover. In addition, I ran some of the silicon sealant down the trough of the gutters, where you can't see it (after cleaning the troughs with a rag and alcohol).

No leaks since! :)

On my disco one of the welded seams on the gutter had burst, it was the smallest of holes too, but did it leak!! I always seemed to park slightly up hill so the gutter was always full of water around the rear corner just to make things worse. Sorted with some silicone sealer and no more water (so far) Found this link which is quite useful for leaky discos. They all seem to leak somewhere.

Now the leaks fixed I've just had a chance to take out rear carpet and sound proofing to find   lots of rust and holes:( The sound proofing was absolutely ringing with water, surprised it didn't drain out of all the new holes !!

Have you ruled out the alpine windows, they can leak and soak the roof lining, give it a water test with a hose pipe but try not to wet the sunroof.

yeah i've just taken all the carpet and sound proofing out of mine and had one larger hole by the wheel arch and a few about to rust right through, gonna get it fixed for MOT but tempted to buy a new floor plan! i love my disco but i've had nothig but problems this year, 1st clutch then CV joint went now this!

Not sure whether to patch mine up for now or replace the whole lot. All around the edges has gone. I suppose it wont take much knocking out if i do decide to replace it:rolleyes:
I still can't get over how much water the sound proofing held !! its taken a week to dry it out:eek:
Had a lucky year so far problem wise, but the big cambelt service and MOT is looming so fingers crossed;)

i guess it depends how bad it is, mine had gone by the wheel arch, the seat belt anchors were pretty rusted and there were a few spots where the front boot crossmember was. decided just to patch it up for now though you can get a floor plan for around £50. god the sound proofing was really heavy in mine - partly because it was holding water!!:(

my MOT is end of june thats why i decided to have a good look round car and found the rust!! wish i hadnt of started looking now!!!!
