ok was offreoading at tong last sunday was in a bit of water and went up a hill ended up with loads of mud and water all behind seats and in battery box has anyone moved batteries to another location or done a mod to seal the batt box
 
A pressurised vessel & 10tubes of silicone won't keep yer battery dry all the time you hang around wiv those loonies from Ull
 
There are some big oles in it that would need sealing, I had my seat box off last year an was going to try sealing the box but decided that it would be a waste of time, sillykunt an energy, so made sure the drain holes were well cleaned out so the watter that got in could get out easily.
 
I was gonna say that but he's one of them Hull4x4 loonies So ah dint bother. helloo Ian.


Bloody plumber asking how to cure a leak what ever will they fink ov next???.
 
well you numptees i sealed all the holes in the battery box and around the seams and i sealed it that well that it held the water in there that had come through the silly black sliding plates on the top, anyway got a better idea now i was just wondering if anyone had a good idea!!!nooo chance.... i am fitting bucket seats in a few weeks and i am going to replcae the crap slidy pl;ates with proper chequer plate that will bolt down and sit on a bead of silicone sealent to stop the water getting in, will look cool too...so there,.....nah nah nah nah:D

What yer need to do is fit a length of soft flexible rubber pipe to a drain hole. A condom or some heatshrink tubing will do. So that water will drain out of it but any back pressure will crush the pipe and stop it filling up again. bit like the noo trapless sink waste yer can get now.
 
The Hepvo waste valves yer mean, I wunt touch them with a barge pole. The air filter housing has the valve you mean on the bottom.

Errr i dont think so it is a sealed battery numpty, i only posted on here to get some positive feedback or ideas but it seems you are all on another planet and incapable of posting a serious or helpful post...
 
Yea, right, of course a "sealed" battery is completely sealed and the Hydrogen gas that is generated when charging is magically re-absorbed.

Carry on mate - just don't give me a lift in yer cab.

an just cos it sez yer battries sealed dunt mean it still dunt produce gas when iss chargin but hey ho ! carry on old chap ;)
 
When i plug one under the covers and hold doris' head under, the gas is miraculously absorbed by her - int this the same principle? The energy expended increases dramatically too - might be a good thing fer batteries!
 
I would have thought that explosive gases was a nonsense if it weren't for the fact that in my old and now dead ninety SW, something went wrong with the alternator which meant that it was throwing out gazillions of volts and my passeneger complained of a hot bottom and feeling ill. Took seat up and a mystery toxic stinky gas seared my eyes nose and throat. They were sore for days.

AA man said I was very lucky not to have exploderised and did I not notice my battery condidition gauge was beyond the red.

I knew even less about cars back then.

Now now Ian don't be getting touchy Yer shud ov posted yer question in me "ask redhand" thread. If yer wanted a serious answer with no ****taking. Ths Forum int like Hull4x4 we dint take anything seriously on here. While people have taken the **** their advice is serious enough even sealed batteries have a vent on them to release the gasses produced whilst charging and if you fit one in an airtight box it could result in a buildup of explosive gasses. So fit a self collapsing vent pipe like I suggested earlier and you won't have any problems.
 
most batteries have a vent tube - why not just connect this to a fitting open to the atmosphere? the rest of the compartment can then be made water tight. It is unlikely that any water will ingress through the vent tube.
