So why can't you export any 2nd hand discos or post 88 RR's without paying massive import duties whilst been able to export Pre 88 defenders and series LR's without paying exhorbitant import taxes?

Was the above post red #13 nothing to do with what you called..... anticompetitive import laws.
There used to be a company on the East coast that imported Defenders according to US laws and then rebuild them to a high standard, and then sell them on. Land Rover took them to US court and put them out of business.
Just like the MOD sales places in the UK have Brand new defenders for sale left hand drive you look at there sales restriction and it says not for sale in the UK,EU or USA:scratching_chin: wonder why

exactly,vehicle didnt meet the rules ,in the 90s we used to supply a lot of engines gearboxs axles etc to america to upgrade vehicles but then it just stopped
Really...... If I want to bring in US stuff because I don't like UK stuff I have to Pay 20% vat on the stuff, plus what ever duty fees. No different.
Example I can buy tools and metal working equipment cheaper than in the UK and have It ship by sea container. But I got to pay 20% vat and duty fees. This than makes it more expensive than buying in the Uk.
What that does is protect UK markets and workers

I never said they were. but an import tax that is only applied to new products is protectionism.
However that doesn't mean that I disagree with that policy. and at no point on this thread have I said differently or slagged off the US for having this policy.

of course it is ,plus a revenue stream,eu plus most others are very big at that too ,i understand terms of trade have been negotiated recently between eu and usa to change import taxes ,both sides have areas they wish to protect

dont know if its still the same but importing landy stuff into norway was extortionate,even to the point it was worth driving over to me to get auto box reconditioned ,rather than sending box there

I didn't know you could get a 1975 defender. you learn something new every day. These mercans are so switched on.
Was signed to reduce the tax on stuff so more goes back and forth between the countries. Making goods more affordable between us

but some people have had their Landies back because Land Rover North America only used the last six digits to check the VIN codes and as we all know that's not good enough, you have to use all of it ....
