Do not use the function "set calibrated" and "set tested", it will lock up the ACE ECU.

This happened to me this morning with two ecu's. There is also something wrong with the displayed fault codes: pressure sensor out of range will give control valve 2 circuit fault on the nanocom and a unplugged pressure sensor will give control valve 1 circuit fault!!!!!!

Will contact Mattia today about this.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Regards Gerhard

Hi Gerhard
Can you explain which version of Nanocom if old or new Evolution type and which firmware you're using?

This is the story what happened:

I got the amber warning light after starting, so I took out my nanocom and read the logged fault codes: direction valve 2 circuit failure. Bought a new coil and fitted it, nothing changed, still the same code after clearing. Tested the valves in the output test mode and they worked! Strange. Used the input mode and saw some strange figures concerning the pressure sensor, 200 bar with the engine off! Disconnected the sensor and now I got the direction valve 1 circuit failure, so I scratched my head. Fitted a new sensor and everything worked fine again. Recalibrated both acc. sensors and everything stil worked fine.
And now the part I should not have done: after using the set calibrated and set tested function the amber light came on, main relay switched of and all output test function did not function anymore! The amber light goes directly on if you switch on the ignition.

So I took a spare ace ecu, did the same as above : same story!!!!!

Found this on the site from black Box Solutions:

New/Used: This identifies if the ECU is new (Virgin State) or used. Before a new ECU can be used the main relay have to be energized, then it has to have the lateral accelerometers calibrated, which can be done using the 'SELF CALIBRATE' function found in 'OTHER' section. It also must pass all 5 'RESPONSE TIME' tests also found in the 'OTHER' section. Until these functions are performed, the ECU as an internal feature will not function correctly and will keep the fault lamp illuminated. Once this has been done this value will change from saying 'NEW to say 'USED' and the ECU will function properly. At the end of the tests, return the main relay to normal.

I think my ecu's went back in the virgin state! Now I have to go to a dealer because the nanocom is missing some functions mentioned above.

Regards Gerhard

PS The nanocom was used standalone.

From what I have seen / read elsewhere Nanocom have teamed up with BBS (black box solutions), this is probably a good thing ref tech support, but I feel it will be a bad thing ref diagnostic tool costs / functionality in the the future.

I take your comments and expectations of forthcoming price rises on board Urban Panzer, thanks for the heads up ;)

I did not actually think it possible to set an ACE ecu back to factory virgin state, and for sure the status is set as read only on our stuff from which the Nanocom's capabilities was originally copied.

In any event i do recall a little nugget of info that might help.

As our help page suggests, to get an ECU out of the virgin state, you have to successfully run some tests. The problem is (and this affects dealers with their Testbook too) is that in virgin state the ECU does not energize the main relay, allowing the tests to be ran. So what you have to do is manually bypass / energize the main relay when doing the tests.

I hope this helps

BBS Guy,

Bypassing the main relay won't help I think, because the Nanocom is missing the valve on and off time tests!.

The real problem is that there is something wrong with the ACE module software and it's may be possible the Evo affected also, because they are based on the same software.

The two problems:

1. misleading fault codes: press. transduser out of range gives control valve 2 circuit failure; disconected press. transducer gives control valve 1 circuit failure.

2. Using set calibrated and set tested lock's up the ecu. Symptoms: amber warning light immediately after switching on ignition. Main relay off, not possible to switch on in output test mode. All other output testmodes not functioning. Acc. sensors reading 1,43 and -1,34 and pressure reading normal. No fault codes.

This was all done with a nanocom USB, firmware 2.05 and stand alone.

if im honest, im not sure how to interpret that response as I dont know you or have not spoke to you before.

The fact you have replied confirms then that you have Teamed up ?

Whats the future plans for Nanocom then as it seems a bit pointless to market 2 "tools" with you having your own system?

Nanocom "imo" gave the world of diagnostic capability to the TD5 DIY user / owner in a super little package at the right price, I only hope that it remains that way.

Hi Urban Panzer, first of all Gratulation for your Homepage

Back to topic, I really hope that this BBS Guy knows what he is talking about, I also don`t know him but he is the new Partner/Dealer/what ever for Nanocom.
And I ordered my New EVO from his home page

Hi All
Lets say for everyone that owns a Nanocom
to keep it in safe
If these guys start to manipulate and add Vin options = more €
Then we're Buggered in future

I'd agree with that sentiment.

I asked blackbox about registering on their forum as an existing Evolution user and they replied:

Good morning

I had to take advice on this one to find out the situation regarding
support issues from previous customers of Mattia and Nanocom.it
The answer I'm sorry to say at this time is that we can only
register customers who purchase the equipment from us.

Whether this decision will change in the future I really could not answer
at this time.

:doh:Thats a worry, :eek:as I only bought mine via a nanocom supplied by Mattia last month. one of the last nanocom.it supplied units..so what happens to the warranty and replacement if defective...BBS said they would support the nanocom evo from their site and looked forward to a good relationship with nanocom customers, with the increased support they were intending to supply....confident in BBS's service I welcomed the move:doh:...wondering now if that was a bit premature..what say you BBSGuy.:(:confused::confused::confused:

I knew That Mattia was having a difficult time
and that he was having some Legal problems with BBS
but not to this extent
He said it would have been sorted in little time but it looks
and sounds like they have taken over his Nanocom :(
I wrote to Mattia but got a reply from a Guy named Ron from BBS
So this means
FINITO

I'm not the type of guy who stands here and does nothing
if i don't see, touch with my own eyes / hands as said by "St Tommaso"
Then i won't believe
I've asked a colleague of mine "sales guy" to visit the company
who produced the Nanocom for Mattia to find more info if it's still produced in Italy
and by who ?
I work for a SMT machine manufacturer as a service engineer
so i will try to get as more info as possible.
I'll keep you all updated on any important info
Bye for now
Vince

Watching from time to time it appears BBS guy is self serving.
By this he appears from time to time with a little advice, but it is a thinly veiled selling activity.

Choice can be nothing but a good thing and it would seem that there will be less choice.

I just checked the reading confirmation from the mail to Mattia: it came from BBS. So I have to bark at a other tree now! In the press release it is also mentioned that BBS will also handle all public aspects of the Nanocom business and support. According the press release they took over Nanocom and have to give support to old customers!

:rolly:
