warning lights showing A.B.S. traction control and decend control have all come on for second time. main dealer said common glitch but plugged into their computer which said possible 'shuttle valve switch' fault. dealer stated adjusted switch and reset lights which stayed off for four days. I have been told that the switch on the gear lever (decend control) is the shuttle valve switch, is this correct? On investigation i found that both wires were off the switch and also the socket that fits on gear lever was nowhere to be seen(plug intact though) switch and socket both replaced, but as switch is normally open is this the only reason for the warning showing?????? any info please before i payout again to have warning lights switched off by dealer again

What a crock off poo,the shuttle valves are located in the abs modulator not adjustable, excuse me while i laugh, sorry they make me angry, the knob on the gearstick is to operate the hill decent control the wires often brake off just refit them if you can as a knew knob is about 50 quid, dont listen to that first thing to do is check brake lights work and whatever the outcome fit a new 1 easy to do and the major cause of abs faults on freelanders, only ever fitted 1 abs modulator for shuttle valves in 4 yrs and they are not cheap, hope this helps tiga oh yes if the system functions correctly if you turn ignition off and roadtest over 4 mph the light should go out without the need for main stealer to put lights out,if the problem is permanant the lights will stay on but 9 times out of ten its the switch.

to Tigapiglet thank you for reply. I went to dealer to buy new switch as advised ,was told that not in stock and also told that switches on older models (ours is a W reg.) do not go wrong like the new ones. Can you still advise, change switch, brake lights do function. thank you in advance

Hi all the switches go wrong but the early ones go wrong less, has the abs lghts come back on yet, sometimes it can be caused by bad earth connections under bonnet and poor or green connections to abs modulator this is worth a check sometime, tiga

To tigapiglet. brake light switch replaced. to do your reset to put lights out do you mean drive car at say 30 m.p.h. and turn ignition off and coast or am i just being a numpty. by the way the 3 lights have been on all the time I did not see any broken wires on a.b.s. unit, just two plugs.Going back to the stealers original fault diagnosis of shuttle valve switch, can you tell me where this switch is located? thanks for your patients.

Hi if you turn off ignition and then start the engine only the abs yellow light should be on until you drive over about 4 mph, then the light should go out if it dosent then there is another fault the shuttle valves are built into the abs module so you cant see them or do anything with them, did you rewire the hdc control switch on the gearstick, all the best tiga

Hi Tiga piglet yes i fitted a new switch to hdc and also replaced the brake switch, checked for corrosion on a.b.s. unit, non found. I still have the three lights on all the time.I notice on other warning lights problems that some are sent to check wheel sensors, any other ideas or shall I take the bulbs out????
