Anyone used them before? Been using a cheap Mantec one for the past couple of years and it's not looking too clever at the minute.

I'm also unsure whether it would be worth the extra £200 for the synthetic rope version.

As with any winch ( Except some cheap Chinese ones) if you maintain it I should last but most people don't
Keep it clean and lubed.
Synthetic rope, I feel this guy has been around long enough to be a good supplier

Personally I would have a look at Come Up, this is the importer, I can vouch for the quality and back up as they hold the spares in the UK and have sold thousands of them over the last 10 + years they have been the official importer

Both my self and the late Phil Gordon were Come up local agents and both found them to be excellent quality with good service.

I think it would retail for £450 ish.
One word of warning when you buy a winch pay via credit card as quite often I have seen people set up shop selling winches cheaply then close down a few months later when the warranty claims start coming, I have seen a few fakes too, labelled Warm etc but clearly not if you know what you are looking at.

Yeah, I've heard a few horror stories about that, main reason I was looking at Craddocks.

The choice on rope depends on what you use it for... Synth is light and stronger, but just isn't abrasion resistant like steel. I just looked up Synth Marlow for mine as my Dyneema is getting worn and it was £550.... You can get steel for £75 delivered.

I snapped by Dyneema on the 3rd use, and despite the rot from Bowyer of "ridiculous situations" it was in as new condition and was a dream pull.

If you go synth make sure its not Chinese imported rope as there are lots of folk having them snap.

The one thing that puts me off synthetic rope is you never see it in commercial use, as compared to wire it just has a very short life span.
I have seen lots of people come and go in the winching game and loads of new wonder synthetic ropes, but at the end of the day they will get dirty, gritty etc and this is the biggest issue, a wire will be ok with this but synthetic wont.
Just have a good think.
How often will you use the winch?
What will it be used for?
Are you going to Pimp your ride or actually need a winch?
Is it worth the extra for synthetic?
Can I be arsed to maintain the winch and rope?
